Ever had a brilliant idea, and then realised that someone else has had that idea before you. [More:] I was all for posting to you bunnies how I'd worked out that Linden Labs were actually setting up the infrastructure to make micropayments really work, how second life was a trojan horse, how the yoke of google style advertising could finally be broken and for one brief moment in time, how Clay Shirky could be proven wrong.

It was not to be. Damn you Brady Forrest. Damn you to hell and back.
I invented a car engine that shuts off some of its cylinders while cruising (when not a lot of power is needed), thus saving some fuel. Only I thought of it about 20 years after Cadillac came out with their V8/6/4 engine. In fact, in the year after I had my idea, Honda and some other manufacturers started doing it.

I had an idea about a string of movies set in mid-70's New York that dealt with analysis, sexual hang-ups, with a large dose of intellectual humor and poeple like Diane Keaton and Carol Kane would star in them, as ponies.

If Second Life is a Trojan, that explains why most people throw it away after only one use.

Is this thing on?

YES! Since I was a child. I invented velcro, sort of. You know nettles? I said cave men used them to hold their clothes together. The snow board, too. I said I don't like skiing, but I like skateboarding - I wish I could ski on just one ski. Lid spoons. Awhile back a yogurt company preforated their lids in the shape of a spoon, so you could pop it out and eat your yogurt. I always thought what a waste of plastic that lid was and why couldn't it be shaped into a spoon. I am always a day late and a dollar short.

One time after a business trip to Dublin I came back and was going on and on about how I was going to open a chain of middle eastern restaurants called "Abrakababra" and wasn't that the best idea ever and then my friend who grew up in Dublin said "yeah man, but there is a chain of middle eastern restaurants all over Ireland called "Abrakababra" and I said "No way in fucking hell there is man."

Of course there is, I liked the name so much that I just decided that I thought it up and erased the memories of seeing them in Ireland.

Which is not quite the same thing but all of my other inventions are unique and utterly impossible to create.

Oh wait, I once thought I invented a new way of urinating silently into a toilet while standing up, which I called the "spy pee", but my friend claimed that people have been doing that for thousands of years. I dunno, doesn't seem like it's worth the patent fees.

I actually have a good idea I've been sitting on for a while. I really need to get going on it before someone else does. I'm watching all ya'll.

Well, it's not really brilliant, just profitable...hopefully.

When I was 10 years old and had been learning about electricity, I had an idea that you could run electricity through a metal rod and that would make it so hot you could use it to melt other pieces of metal together ('cause Elmers didn't work so well). I thought that this invention would make me rich and famous, probably enough so that I could buy my own Space Invaders machine. I was devastated when, soon after, I saw a TV program featuring electric welders.

Actually my yen for saving power and water drove me to think up something great. But almost as soon as I'd thought of it, I looked for it online and found it.

In the beginning of the 90s I had an idea about making a website with content that was added to every day which would highlight cool and interesting stuff on the internet. It was called "One Small Good Thing" and I made a very cool design and logo for it and everything (I still have it)... Then in the end I was like, "nah - how could anyone (me) post something new every day? I'd need more people." (and pretty much everyone I knew at that time didn't even have a computer at home.) And I never went forward with that wacky, wacky idea.

wait... not the beginning of the '90s; more like mid-90s.

Wow. I even have a bunch of pages that still look really great - beautiful and clean, and I made them way back then for 640x480 resolution. *sigh*

Nice logo!

I remember visiting Cool Site of the Day. They've gone to hell in a hand basket, but they have archives going back to 1994.
