MetaChat - Is this equivalent to Garage Band on a Mac?

Is this equivalent to Garage Band on a Mac? We are, for now, pretty much wedded to PC's, so I am trying to find an equivalent to Garage Band, →[More:]the free music recording program that comes with an iBook. This looks close but I am very inexperienced with recording if it does not include rolling tape.

Thanks for any advice, opinions, snarks, whatever.

You could give FL Studio a try. Avoiding Sony software is usually a good idea.

I've been told by folks who know (i.e., who code for GB at Apple) that the original codebase for GB was Acid. But they've diverged somewhat since then.

A friend of mine who uses Acid, though, says they're still pretty close in terms of interface and functionality and he likes Acid.

I use GB myself, by the way, and I think it's the best product out there in its category. It's not technically free; it's part of iLife, which is bundled with some Apples but is in fact a payware software suite.

acid is pretty good for those "quick and dirty" mixes, but as far as pure functionality goes i prefer ableton live.
