Some of the lyrics to 'Baby It's Cold Outside' are really creepy.[More:]

Her:
Say, what's in this drink?
The answer is no.

Him:
Baby, don't hold out.
What's the sense of hurting my pride?
Don't do this to me.
Think of my lifelong sorrow if you caught pneumonia and died.
I always liked that song, but yes it's very creepy.

ha! I never knew what they said. Dean Martin is just really creepy anyway, with or without lyrics. *shiver*

"Young Blood" is a good one too.

she looked so hep
i had to follow her all the way home
then things went bad
i met her dad
he said
you'd better leave my daughter alone

... and don't even get me started on Bubblegum lyrics like "Chewy Chewy" or "Jingle Jangle".

I like to read it as though she is just as interested as he is, but comes from a time when women weren't allowed to express their own sexuality, so she filters it through the anticipated approbation of society. But yeah, if someone did this song today, it would be date-rapey-creepy.

"if someone did this song today" see Holly Cole and Steven Page. Here.

Plus, if he has his own place, and (in my mind) he's well into adulthood, and she still lives with her parents, it has that vibe of an underage girl with an older, sleezy guy, drugging her.

But matildaben is right also, in her interpretation, especially given this.

I agree - she's being coy and wants to be talked into staying.

The lyrics are creepy anyway.

Sure, it's creepy, but now i wanna hear it
(please?)
and someone to sing it with because it's a fun duet.

The Holly Cole and Steven Page version is definitely my favorite, but yeah. Nevertheless, it's okay sometimes to not let the interpretation get in the way of enjoying a song.

It's the Pepe Le Pew of Christmas songs!

It occured to me years ago that Pepe really should be doing some time for all the sexual harrassment he handed out.

Mind you, he also came up with the great line, "I shoot you with my ack-ack of love" (said while miming machine gun fire!).

P.S. For Eth...

You people are tough. I was just kidding.

It's probably my all time favorite Christmas song.

It's a tough crowd ico. I suspected you secretly loved the song.

Now, be careful, before I shoot you with my ack-ack of love!

thanks, richat. i wish i could sing it with pepe
or at least see most of the almost never shown pepe cartoons.
i think the song might be better with a less aggressive male voice
but i, personally, have to do the start off sweet and funny then drop an octave and lose all sense of humor voice thing. It's very effective on the phone.

Sometimes no means yes! She was asking for it!

It's a Christmas song?

It's my sister's favorite too, ico. (Mine is Oh Holy Night. It's so very grand and I like to bust out the "Fall on your knees! Oh heeeaaaarr the angel vooooiiiices!".)

"(My maiden aunt's mind is vicious) Gosh your lips are delicious" Ew.

According to Wikipedia, "The female voice in the song is called 'The Mouse' and the male 'The Wolf.'"

Here's a fun version [.mp3] by Leon Redbone and Zooey Deschanel.

There was an awesome all-brass instrumental rendition of "O Holy Night" on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. You can download it from the show's music page.

Tryin' get some is pretty creepy, period.

I didn't get any until I learned to read between the lines a bit.
Where's the fun in declaring your intentions up front?

(And no, I'm not a rapist or a stalker)
