I like to read it as though she is just as interested as he is, but comes from a time when women weren't allowed to express their own sexuality, so she filters it through the anticipated approbation of society. But yeah, if someone did this song today, it would be date-rapey-creepy.

Plus, if he has his own place, and (in my mind) he's well into adulthood, and she still lives with her parents, it has that vibe of an underage girl with an older, sleezy guy, drugging her.

But matildaben is right also, in her interpretation, especially given this.

The Holly Cole and Steven Page version is definitely my favorite, but yeah. Nevertheless, it's okay sometimes to not let the interpretation get in the way of enjoying a song.

It's the Pepe Le Pew of Christmas songs!

It occured to me years ago that Pepe really should be doing some time for all the sexual harrassment he handed out.

Mind you, he also came up with the great line, "I shoot you with my ack-ack of love" (said while miming machine gun fire!).

or at least see most of the almost never shown pepe cartoons.
i think the song might be better with a less aggressive male voice
but i, personally, have to do the start off sweet and funny then drop an octave and lose all sense of humor voice thing. It's very effective on the phone.

It's my sister's favorite too, ico. (Mine is Oh Holy Night. It's so very grand and I like to bust out the "Fall on your knees! Oh heeeaaaarr the angel vooooiiiices!".)
