It's the Ortonizing more than the camera.

I'm a bit fascinated that "authenticity" peaked a few years ago, and we're seeing widely popular filtering processes (which are, not coincidentally, divorced from reality -- that is, filters like charcoal or "old master" painting are also out of style).

What's amusing is that I just used the Orton technique to save a photo that I wasn't happy with because it was poorly focused. I'm not really big on all the heavy Photoshopping that tends to catapult photos to the top of Explore. I'd much rather work in the darkroom to get a good print.
