"I never thought it was such a bad little tree." A great behind-the-scenes article about the best Christmas special ever.

Also, the soundtrack (a holiday staple around my house) has been remastered and reissued.
Dammit, I really did post this BEFORE I saw it was on MeFi. (Popmatters is one of my daily reads.)

That soundtrack is one of my absolute faves. Hands down. Listen to it every year, without fail. A friend once told me that he found it depressing, but I find it evocative and poignant, comforting, hushed...much in the same way that Jean Schultz points out the quiet spaces in the animated cartoons themselves.

Additionally, the story of its inception is fabulous and perfect, especially in light of the triumph of the Little Tree.

Thanks BP!

Several years ago I tried to find the soundtrack and gave up. Thanks for letting me know about the reissue. :)

Aw BP, I like it both places (and I like your additional links too). Ho ho hey!

Speaking of the soundtrack, we're working up an acoustic version of Christmas Time is Here for our Dec 22 show. I'm really excited about it! I just wish we had a projector so we could run the special behind us, with lyrics and a little bouncing ball so people could sing along with us.

I want one of those trees as well, Atom Eyes. I would hug and keep it and take care of it and its name would be George. And I would love George forever.

Thank you for this, BP, I would have missed it otherwise! This is my standard favorite of the holiday season, and I really enjoyed the article. I've always identified with Charlie Brown. Thanks for the link to the soundtrack, too!
