My first FPP!! It only took me a year.[More:]Will you please go look at it and spread the comment love? I feel nervous.
What is there to feel nervous about?

A really good one. . I understand the nerves. . .I have been fricasseed in there.

But a nice post. Good work.

iconomy, I hope you are kidding. I felt the same way with my one (and only) FPP. Mefites are a tough crowd.

SassHat, it's a well crafted post. The only suggestion I would make is to have moved most of it inside into a first comment. Not because I care how much real estate it takes up on the front page, but because so many other people do (there's already one snark about it). And for what it's worth, I had never heard of the Gander crash.

There was actually an earlier snark about the length that was removed soon after it was posted. And briank posted a "More inside" feature request to MeTa.

Good job, SassHat. I know how you feel; I finally posted my first FPP earlier this year (it was not as well crafted as yours). The overall response was "meh," but one person favorited it so I didn't feel too bad about it.

A well done post.

Extra karma points to the 'Hat for mentioning Newfoundland.

Well, the thread and subsequent MeTa are enough to keep the urge to post again away for at least another year, but at least I've been reminded why I hate Metafilter so much!

No, seriously, I don't hate mefi...it's just a cruel mistress. Props for not flaming out completely?

Hey, hangashore, my roommate's from Newfoundland, too!

Awww, I wish people wouldn't build MeFi up to be such a lion pit. It was a very good post and I wish you would post more. Everyone here should. MeFi has umpteen thousand users - someone's always gonna complain, and it does need to be corralled or it would be a useless and annoying site. But it's so much more interesting, diverse, and fun if many different people (particularly women) contribute many different kinds of posts. Don't be afraid of the Big Bad MeFi.

*Some of this pep talk stolen from Jessamyn.

We're everywhere! Except home. *weeps*

I thought it was a totally awesome post, but sometimes it's hard to get beyond the formatting, which is sort of a known snark-pit over at MeFi. Feel free to email me if something goes wacky like that, I can often fix it if I get to it early enough.

Well, it is pretty much a lion pit, but the lions are, like, just really overfed and petulant. They're basically mush-eating lions who've forgotten how to hunt. They loll around snarling and insulting each other without ever actually moving, and their favorite conversation is how much the mush sucks. Ooh. They so scary!

Don't be sorry that you spent time in the wild stalking something interesting to share with the pride, and don't let the musheaters intimidate you. If any of them had one tooth left, maybe they wouldn't be so useless.

I love MeFi, but the whinybitchingovereverysinglethingwithoutendeverever is so tiresome and small. The people who get a charge out of sniping at others while rarely offering anything of value are tiresome and small. And loud.

Oh, God. Yes. Exactly. The people who whine the loudest, the ones who are soooo quick to jump on a post that isn't "perfect" are the ones who never post anything themselves. I can't fucking stand them. I wish I had better technical chops so I could figure out how to killfile them.

Congratulations on the first post, SassHat!

Mefi's down at the moment, so I can't take a look at it until later. But what I can tell you is, I was probably just as nervous after my first post on Slashdot (and this was merely a comment!). I was afraid they might tear me apart for it. Four years (and more than three thousand comments) later, I can look back with nostalgia at the days when I thought my comments were actually making a difference :7

I don't think it's hard to figure out the posting norms on the blue and follow them, and if you do that - and have an interesting link - then MeFi is more generous with the praise and thank you's than any other place I've ever seen. Yep.
