11 December 2006

My boss just killed the project that I have spent the last five months working on, right before it was scheduled to be released. I'm a little pissed off, to say the least.
I'm so sorry! That sucks!

That does suck.

You still get paid and all, right? Because that would REALLY suck.

WTF? Why? Shit!

Yeah, I'm a salaried employee, so I got paid. It just sucks to have pissed away all that time all because people didn't read the specification documents I sent out before I started.

Ugh. What a nightmare. That totally blows.

I'm glad you said "boss" and not "manager"...

I feel your pain.

I just learnt that my Boss decided to rewrite my perfectly OK "perpetual inventory" function to ...
- Not be as functional as it was.
- Look like shit.
And I'm mad as all hell. Not only does he not have the time to spend time tinkering with the code, but if he were to tinker I'd prefer if he tinkered in areas that:
- Need improving.
- Have a tangible customer benefit
- I could do with some input on.
- Are in the "need doing immediately" list.
He's always hated the routine as it was never specified by him and this latest exploit seems like nothing more than sour grapes. His argument was that it was confusing and yet nobody other than him has ever had a problem with it.

What's worse is he's taken a routine which allowed stock taking a location to be split into several discrete chunks and turned it into a routine which requires that the whole location has to be stock-taked in one go. Not so bad for smaller customers, but I hate to think what'll happen when someone tries to use it at a location containing tens of thousands of items.

Gah!

I feel for you

I'm sorry it's time wasted, cmonkey, but at least you got paid for it.

I'm sorry to hear this, cmonkey. It's awful. Seanyboy I'm sorry too. :(

Aw...that's crappy, cmonkey.

Sorry to hear that Cmonkey, I don't love work all that much anyway, but I especially hate it when it is wasted, so I feel your pain.

Cannabilism is trivial?

I got more details on it and it isn't being killed exactly; it will still ship in January so another product can use it, but from then on it's deprecated and I need to rewrite the whole thing in a different language. Which means I'll end up supporting two entirely different code bases that need to have identical functionality. Grrrreat.

I think we should form our own software company. We'll call it Giant Pink Bunnies, Inc. and fucking own the cute fuzzy animal market.

As long as we write all our bunny products in COBOL, like God intended.

I am sorry, cmonkey.

Oh, no! The update is worse than the original! If you're optimistic like I usually am, you can at least see the original dumping as "well, I worked on it, and it won't be used, so that's a waste - but hey, I learned stuff and polished my skills doing it, and got paid for it. Next!" Now it just sounds both disappointing and tiresome; the project ghost that wouldn't go away. Bleh.

And your boss sucks, seanyboy. YES to Giant Pink Bunnies Industries! Plz, can we take over the world?

I would love to take over the world with the Giant Pink Bunnies Industries. Unfortunately I no longer believe I am talented enough.

*sigh*

What a frustrating turn of events, cmonkey. I am so sorry. Nothing more irritating than idiocy.
