"Rabbits need a lot of social stimulation". How true.

It really pisses me off when people get pets and then abandon them, but abandoning them after three months? That's unbelievable.

Part of the problem is that people get rabbits without understanding their care. They need social interaction, they need proper food and they need a vet who understands their care. They can live over 10 years (we've had two that made it past 12) so they're not a short term proposition. At the local shelter, there used to be maybe one or two adoptable rabbits, now they're number 3 behind dogs and cats. Hoover would have ended up there had we not been contacted by his previous owners (they had an infant who was allergic).

Unfortunately, animals pay a high price when they become popular as pets.

or that they'll chew your computer/TV cords, shit all over the place if they're not properly trained, possibly get sick a lot, etc.

I'm always appalled that a very difficult pet like a rabbit still manages to be so popular. they're not frickin' goldfish, for God's sake
