i went to a haitian cabbie joint in nyc once where they had pizzle. i wanted to try it but i went for the conch. i wanted to ship the pizzle to someone but i didn't think it would travel well.
China has a long history of famine and starvation; if any part of an animal, mineral or vegetable could be coaxed into providing nutrients, some Chinese cuisine or another has managed to do it.
yes, jason. I was in China this summer and I was horrified at what they consider edible: bugs, scorpions, silkworms (I am still bummed I did not try scorpion-what a wuss!). In Greece we consider an absolute delicacy cow's tongues and bull's testicles. I have tried both (the latter, kind of meh!)
The reason we eat such foods (as well as intestines, hearts, stomachs, lungs...) is that resources, particularly in earlier times (before mechanization), were limited if not scarce in countries like Greece which is mostly mountainous terrain. In China I am sure The Great Famine would have been the time when people ate everything they could find.
When I read this I all I could think was "I hope it is really the BBC" b/c after the soft-core porn post to the blue involving cameras inside the bodies of the actors several UK MeFites kept pointing out it WAS NOT THE BBC.
Anyway, boy, they would have pulled a Cromwell on you in here if you had messed up!
