Ugh. So my friend N went through breast cancer last year.→[More:] She finished up chemo, started grad school, and was feeling mighty pleased this month because she got the all-clear on her last mammogram. Then the very next day she felt some severe mysterious pain in her back and side, went to the ER, and surprise! The cancer's in her bones and liver.

N. is about ten years younger than I am and has three kids.

I am sad and furious and I wish she weren't a couple of thousand miles away.

I'm so sorry.

A member of a mailing list I'm on died over the weekend after finally sucumbing to cancer. She was an absolutely amazing person and touched so many people even though most of them never met her in real life. I've been meaning to write up a small tribute post to her but am unsure whether I could do her justice.

Life is so unfair at times - I wish your friend and her family much love and support going forward.
