To publicize his latest “Rocky” sequel, Sylvester Stallone has turned to Motive Entertainment, the same grass-roots firm that successfully sold “The Passion” to the Bible Belt crowd in 2004. “Rocky Balboa has lost everything, and we see him triumph,” Stallone said in a conference call with Christian groups this week. “The last thing he hears before he enters the ring is scripture, and that’s what gives him strength.”

It's a good thing for Stallone that the Bible Belt crowd seems to be largely oblivious to irony.

Strange. The original Rocky is one of my all time favorite movies (I always weep when he calls out to Adrian at the end), and I think Stallone is underrated in a lot of ways, so I was kind of interested in the revival of the character. But this is kind of weird. But then again there have been some excellent religion themed movies like Tender Mercies for instance, so I'll have to keep an open mind.

When I was small (in size and in age too) I had a mild, yet recognizable, crush on Stallone. The Schwartzenichtenfunken guy never did for me. But at some point I became very deeply embarrassed about my crush. So I stopped.

So, please forget I said it, ok?
