A man who writes to the woman he loves: “I will wait for you, but not more than 100 years, maybe 101.” Bertrand Tavernier's goodbye letter to his "friend, brother and father", Philippe Noiret.
It's incredibly hard to name just one film in a career as amazing as Monsieur Noiret's -- anyway I think that my super-favorite of them all is La Vie Et Rien D'Autre

i didn't know the name but i instantly knew the face.
It rains down hard this time of year.

yeah, Noiret was one of those actors -- giants, really -- who had the gift of transparence. no matter his haircut, his facial hair -- or lack thereof -- he always looked the same, but he also always became the character. just like Mastroianni did.

he's probably best known outside of Italy and France for Cinema Paradiso an Il Postino, but what a career

What a beautiful and wonderful description: He taught me so much, made me discover authors, painters — a certain art of living, with elegance and discretion. He gave me a sense of actors and showed me that one could be exacting and passionate while remaining pleasant and gentle.

If ever there was a lost in living, I think it's that exactly.

Rest well, sir.
