The Good News: Jones Sodas will no longer contain high-fructose corn syrup.
The Bad News: Jones Sodas will continue to contain turkey and gravy.

Ugh, Jones Soda tastes like syrupy squirrel guts. I like that other flavored soda brand, that the coffee shop near me used to carry, before it switched to Jones.

I tried the holiday pack last year. I made my entire extended family join in and the hilarity ensued in droves. The turkey one isn't even that bad, it kinda tastes like diet caffeine free pepsi. The brussels sprouts and stuffing were easily the worst. I think I remember my cousin puking up one of those. Good times man...Good times.

I took the holiday pack to a party last year. It worked out, because there were enough people so we all got about a shot's worth of each.

Like Doublewhiskey's cousin, one of the girls threw up. It was one of the vegetable flavors that did it. Most people had to spit most of them back out. The flavors were all pretty nasty.

Yeah, I still feel pretty bad about that.

Jones is far too sweet -- a fact demonstrated all to clearly by their diet sodas, which seem to use the same amount of artificial sweetener (splenda, I believe) as the regular versions use high-fructose corn syrup, despite the former being far sweeter by volume than the latter. The result goes beyond sweet right to bitter.

I've never tried Jones soda, but good on them for ditching the corn syrup. I've recently been monitoring my intake of the stuff, and it's alarming just how many of our food products contain that shit, for no conceivable (to me) reason.

A couple weeks ago, I was craving some comfort food, so I decided on grilled cheese and tomato soup. After just one spoonful, I noticed the soup had a surprisingly sweet, unpleasant undertaste. I fished the can out of the trash, read the label, and was disgusted to find HFCS was the third most prominent ingredient, right behind tomato paste and salt. It's maddening! And once you're off the stuff, you can't not taste it in a product, no matter how small the amount.

What I want to know is: Why? Is this stuff really all that much cheaper than sugar, or is it because of some farm subsidy type deal? Inquiring minds want to know...

In short, it's yet another asinine government-corporatist "we must destroy the free market in order to save it" conspiracy. Big Corn lobbyists passed big 'ol tariffs on sugar to fatten their wallets. I think the trade embargo on Cuba might factor in there, too, but I might just be making that up.
