Nice picture of a flicker, Mitheral!

Is that what it is? I thought it was some kind of wood pecker. Nothing for scale in the picture but this one was about the size of a pigeon. There were half a dozen around my Dad's place a couple of months ago.

Mitheral, just so you know, a flicker is a woodpecker. And there's different kinds of flickers, too: gilded, yellow shafted, and northern. Funny thing, I've seemingly always known they're flickers, but I never realized they were woodpeckers too until a couple of years ago.

Thanks. I guess you learn somthing everyday. The word flicker conjuress up something resembling a hummingbird I guess rather than these fairly stately specemins.
