Black Friday Today I quit my retail job on the busiest day of the year, and now Kyleg and I are at home drinking coffee and playing my brother's new Wii he bought this morning. This rules.
Capitalism weeps.

It's a good feeling. I mean, I have friends who work there, and I did dick them over some, but they won't stay mad forever and even if they do... I had to do what was best for me. I think they'll eventually understand.

This is only the second black friday since 1997 that I haven't worked in a store, granted I had to work anyways, but now I have an office job with a retail company. Hooray for no direct customer interaction!

AND HUZZAH to you!

I dreamt about quitting you again last night and it felt alright to me...

hopefully you did it with flair: tremors, spasms, facial contortion, violent outbursts of execreble profanity, and soaring rivulets of spittle.

I can't imagine how awful it must be to work in a retail environment at this time of year. Good on you.

Imagine an accountant just before tax day and multiply it by twenty (because unlike the accountant you can be easily replaced).

Just up and quit? 'Cause that really sucks for your co-worker/friends. If this was already known, so be it. But when you really think about it, it's cruel to screw over the people you work with. The company won't care, sure, but they aren't down in the trenches trying to cover your spot. Sorry, been on the other end during this season (retail) and it bites royally when someone suddenly decides they don't want to work anymore.

I don't know, via's right. Sure, you're pissed as hell that day, and maybe the ones right after, but then it's business as usual, and there's a new person you have to train to fill their still-warm shoes. It's retail, after all.

If anything, I envy them for being able to do what I wish I could. And I miss them a little.

One of my coworkers up and quit this week and I certainly get his reasoning for it and the sad part of it all is that there's ALREADY his replacement and while I really miss him, to the company he was just this dude. Sucks.

I work in the café in a retail establishment and I am very cranky tonight that while today was not really any busier for me than a normal Friday night, I somehow got SCREWED in the tips department. Last Friday, I took home $24 in tips, today? I did the same amount of business and got $1.50!

What the shit? Do the holidays make everyone stingy? I'mma gonna start spitting in the coffee if this continues.

The cafe in a retail establishment? Is this retail establishment a megabookstore chain?

(The last retail jobs I had were in an adult-video store and a used CD/videogame/record/etc. store--in both cases, Black Friday was just another day.)
