Top ten girl geeks #10 seems rather out of place.
And I don't know why Hedy Lamarr isn't on the list.

Actually, administrators, could you change that image above to this one because hotlinking is bad and I done fucked up:

OMG OMG OMG sometimes, for a brief second, the two animated gifs are in sync, and it's TOTALLY BLOWING MY FUCKING MIND.
posted by mudpuppie 23 November | 00:39
Okay, I removed the other one cmonkey.

And offer up geek girl Hildegard Von Bingen, who theorized a heliocentric Solar System and the concept universal gravitation 500 years before Newton, among many other accomplishments - including inventing her own language just for fun. Or Wilhelmina Paton Fleming, single mother and house maid who developed the system of classifying stars according to their spectra.

But, no - not Paris. What was that quote from her about her ex-mother-in-law-to-be (the other Paris' mother)? Something like, "she wants to talk about things like art and books - stuff that no one my age would ever be interested in." (paraphrasing)

My comment made more sense before taz went and did admin shit.

I second Hilde and Hedy but hey Paris was built from a kit right?

Paris Hilton???? I think not. She may have a two-digit IQ comprised of 1s and 0s, but there is no way in the world I would describe her as "all binary"
posted by dg 23 November | 01:01
Uh. Yeah. Paris Hilton? Over Hedy Lamarr.

No.
posted by Specklet 23 November | 03:21
I think the author of that list needs a kick in the shins for number 10. Seriously? Paris?

OK, we have to stop paying attention to Paris Hilton. If we stop, she'll dissolve back into the ether from whence she came and the world be that much better for it.

Lisa Simpson and Daryl Hannah are pretty bullshit choices too, although the board game thing comes close to qualifying. If it's true, natch: did Hannah really design the games or just loan her name to them?
posted by PinkStainlessTail 23 November | 08:27
It's not *Hedy*, it's *Hedley*. Hedley Lamarr.

One big WOOT! for Rosalind Franklin (#5).

And what girl-geek list would be complete without Lise Meitner, who should've shared the 1944 Chemistry Nobel, and who had an element named after her?
posted by hangashore 23 November | 10:12
Props to taz for bringing up Hildegard von Bingen's scientific accomplishments, as I'd only been aware of her musical compositions.
posted by hangashore 23 November | 10:16
I absolutely knew in advance who #10 was. It's ignorable blog bait. "We'd better put in a WTF choice, otherwise nobody will talk about this."
posted by stilicho 23 November | 10:56
Marie Curie would have been a good choice. Also, the girl that played Winnie on The Wonder Years (Danica something or other) is supposedly some kind of mathematical wunderkind. She could be a top ten girl geek in the future.
posted by iconomy 23 November | 11:21
Ah Danica McKellar is her name. All that and looks too...not fair. And less we forget an intarwebs classic, Britney Spears' Guide to Semiconductor Physics.
posted by iconomy 23 November | 11:23
Oh come on, Hedy Lamarr had one good idea, how does that make her that worthy of note?
posted by delmoi 23 November | 12:55
I think Hilton is there because someone somewhere thought it was a list of girl freaks.
posted by Doohickie 23 November | 13:49
Ms. Hilton pillow-talks about quantum mechanics. I know; I've seen the video online. Her post-coital dissertation was the most stimulating thing about it.
posted by Hugh Janus 23 November | 14:03
Wasn't Cinnamon supposed to be on that list somewhere?
posted by Eideteker 23 November | 15:08
GAG! Oh please cruel world don't ever call me a geek again.
posted by dabitch 23 November | 16:40
At least Hilton is an obvious joke. I'm more miffed at the inclusion of the semi-literate Krotoski - still, if it'd been a few years back they would've gone for the unutterably vile skronk Emily "Bouff" Booth, her former co-presenter, which would've made me throw up.
