20 November 2006

So here's how I'm thinking the MeCha holiday card exchange should work. [More:]1. Email me at the address in my profile with your name, MeCha screen name, mailing address, email address where you want the mailing list sent, and anything else you'd like people to know (winter holiday of choice, etc.) Let's make the deadline Nov. 30 so people have plenty of time to see this and decide if they want in or not.

2. I will use my mad Word skillz to create the address list and send it out to everyone who signed up on December 1.

3. Send cards out.

4. Receive lots of cards from fellow bunnies and feel loved. : )

Sound like a plan?
I'm in! I just e-mailed you.

I have a Grinchy question -- if we sign up, are we assumed to be sending cards to everyone on the list? If so, would it be possible to get a sense (closer to the deadline, obviously) about how many bunnies are signed up?

I just don't want to bite off more than I can chew, basically. I'm not great about getting cards out anyway, and I know that if I suddenly get a slightly unexpected 50 more cards to put out, I'll likely flake.

And I don't want to flake out on y'all, so I'm trying to determine if I should just stay totally clear of this whole thing, or if there are factors inherent in the process that might mitigate my flakiness.

occhiblu makes a good point. I propose that the groups for cards are no more than... 10 or 15 people? There could be several groups for cards. And it could be like, here's the 10 people in your group you must send cards to, and here's the other 40 people signed up, if you care to send them cards, too. Just a thought.
posted by ThePinkSuperhero 20 November | 15:43
occiblu's point is even more pertinent if, like me, you live abroad. Well, I don't live abroad, it's everyone else that does. Apart from those in the "everyone else" that live in the UK. Unless they themselves are going to get all devolutionist about it, in which case it's only those who live in England.

I'd say, oooh, 10 people? That's just me - if the consensus is 15, then I'm cool with that.

Perhaps the groups should be grouped according to geography? All people over in the UK in one group (that may or may not include some people from across the sea)?
posted by ThePinkSuperhero 20 November | 15:58
That's a good idea, Teeps, but I still want the whole list, because there may be people I want to send a card to who don't live in the States. TheDonF, I'm lookin' at you.
posted by Specklet 20 November | 16:07
Exactly, I want the whole list, too.

Me too...can i have the full list?
Email sent!

I like the "here's your group of 10, and here's everyone else" idea, too. I would totally be into that.

I also prefer the "group of ten obligations" and "whole list if you're up to it" scenario.

Yay cards! Geography isn't an issue as long as the groups aren't too huge as it could start getting expensive for people. My last MeFi swap went to the USA, Canada, the Netherlands and Japan, and that was fine. If there's options, I'll take the full list purleaze. Cos, y'know, there's people that deserve cards I'm looking straight back atcha, Specklet.

I could organize it that way...of course, it all depends how many people sign up. If only, say, 12-15 people sign up we may as well just have one group. I'll subdivide if the group gets pretty large, and we can do it geographically or by random drawing or something like that. In any case, everyone will get the whole list of names and addresses. : )

OK. That's enough reassurance for me, I'm in. Info on its way.
posted by occhiblu 20 November | 18:45
Okay, I'm signed up. And if we do the group thing, I also like the option of recieving the whole list. I'm feeling optimistic.

I'm in...I hadn't realized that it would be okay to NOT send one to everyone!
posted by richat 29 November | 10:47
Signed up. 10 oblig's and an "everyone else" list sounds good to me.

Also, I'd prefer to be sending my cards to as wide a geographical spread as is possible, so I don't like the "group people who live near each other" idea as much.

That's just preference though. I'm happy to stick to whatever rules are out there.

I'm in. It was really fun last year. Use your common sense, and divide the list into groups of 10 - 15 each, depending on the numbers. I loved getting real mail, so may I be on 2 lists, if that doesn't over-complicate? I'll probably send to everyone again anyway.
