Pretty much every day from people of all races. On the subway, in barroom conversations. In garffitti on walls. It's all over the place. I've heard venom agains just about anything you can imagine. And we all* have ugliness like this in us. And getting indignant and treating it like it's radioactive isn't gonna change anything.
*By "all" I mean all humans. Nobody's immune. I'm beginning to wonder if some of this shit isn't present at birth. Best you can do is keep it from dictating how you act, I guess
jon, I brought that up in a MetaFilter thread a couple of weeks ago. I grew up in Georgia and after living in New York the same amount of time as I lived there, I hear and see more bigotry in New York than I did in Georgia. Granted we've got a whole lot more different people in New York (especially in our part of New York), but bigotry is bigotry.
I've definitely heard worse than that fella. Nice flameout on his part, though.
oh man! this is just sad. Not funny, only pathetic and sad. To me he seems waay up high in drugs. even so, I don't know of any excuse that will work. I liked the guy in Seinfeld and I could have never guessed he harbored such feelings. Bleh. Bleh, not because I don't see racism around me, but because it's coming from where I would have not expected. Double bleh.
