Anyone watch Weeds or Dexter? [More:] If you haven't seen Weeds, i do suggest starting with the second season.
During the free Showtime promo period, i got to see the whole second season and more as well as the first few episodes of Dexter (with "David" from Six Feet Under in a drastically different role).
For a thirty minute show, Weeds definitely packs the action in and over the top, and for all Dexter's flaws, it's something distinct.
Is HBO ever gonna have anything worth watching again? Are Showtime movies as craptastic as they seem? What's worth watching on telly anymore, from vapid fun to serious viewing? i may finally be able to start chomping at the bit...
I've only seen season one of Weeds, and it's awesome.

I don't know what Dexter is, but I'm assuming you're not talking about Dexter's Laboratory.

I *love* Trailer Park Boys. That shit's the funniest thing I've seen, perhaps for all time.

However, don't watch the censored-for-America BBC America versions. There's no point to watch TPB with every other word bleeped out, it totally ruins the comedic timing and overall over-the-top-ness of the series.

I can't wait until season 7.

Weeds is definitely great.

I'm enjoying Heroes even though I'm certain that NBC is going to kill it off.

I think Dexter is fantastic. I am pretty sure I already know who the Ice Truck Killer is, though.

In other news, a British show called Life On Mars ran on BBC America some months ago and was GREAT -- a cop falls into a coma and wakes up in 1973. It was only 8 episodes, so maybe they'll re-run it. I'm also a big fan of Bravo's "talent-based" reality shows, Project Runway and Top Chef. 30 Rock on NBC is fucking hilarious ("I'm proud as a peaCOCK, baby!") and makes Studio 60 (which I had SUCH high hopes for) look that much worse. Nip/Tuck is crazy and fun, and while Veronica Mars has not kept up the promise of its first season, but Kristen Bell isn't getting any worse to look at.

In kids' TV, The Upside Down Show makes the Wiggles look like Mr. Rogers.

Heroes is getting pretty good ratings, cmonkey. It should be safe for awhile. I like it, but there are times when it lurches to a stop and becomes almost unwatchably wooden. I can't figure out if it's the actors or the writing that cause that.

I really want to see Dexter, but not enough to pay for Showtime. I think we're cancelling our HBO after the Sopranos ends. With Deadwood gone and Rome done after this season, there's just no reason to keep it. Sundays suck now. Mwah.

On preview: The kid LOVES the Upside Down Show. I'm more of a Jack's Big Music Show gal myself.

Dexter is indeed great. Weeds' second season was even better than its first, in terms of both comedy and plot.

I tried watching the first four or five episodes of Heroes and thought it was completely awful.

Oh and I download everything, I haven't paid for TV in years.

Heroes has been picked up for a full season and is almost insured a solid start of the next. I hate the catchphrase and it has problems but i love Hiro and the bits that work out weigh the parts that don't so far, for me.
Not spoiling anything for anyone, but, man, do they pack in a lot in half an hour, and ya never see it coming.

My beloved Gilmore Girls have been rotted out from the inside, aping a sad imitation of itself, yet sickly i have to witness their defilement as it seems they're almost resigned to ending. Veronica is still worth watching but ifear for it.

jrossi, i didn't even know there was more Rome and forgot about The Sopranos. I was all ready to dump it. hmmm.

Top Chef
is interesting but the catty/whiny thing bugs me.

Hospital and police/legal shows have almost run their course with me, and even the ones i got into because they were on a lot have paled on me. The one 30 Rock i saw was funny and his name is Earl is worth it when i've caught it.

i think i'm defaulting to the idea that most telly is far more watchable when one is somehow altered.

sigh.

Not spoiling anything for anyone,
referring to Weeds.

sorry, real tired

i've already missed quite a few episodes of Weeds and Dexter. i guess i have them to look forward to.

Rome is coming back in January, I believe, for its final series. Then the Sopranos start again in March. After that--blah. Nothing. TV has let me down, man.

Oh, I almost forgot two shows that my daughter and I both love: Mythbusters (featuring MeFi's own asavage) and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. Foster's is a cartoon that takes place in a world where our childhood imaginary friends are real and visible to all. Of course, when we grow up, they can no longer stay with us, and so they get sent to places like Foster's, where they can live until some other imaginationally deprived child can adopt them. It's very high-energy and laugh-out-loud funny, both for 5-year-olds and for grown-ups.

i like Foster's but i think i've seen them all.
i have the second of three discs of FLCL i've yet to see, a really well done, funkily drawn and plotted anime that i still don't really get but it is defintely worth seeing for the uniqueness. it's not for kids.
i still have a deep affection for the Venture Bros and Gir from Invader Zim.

I watched the first and second season of Weeds with great regularity, but I really wouldn't recommend starting with the second. Why would you suggest such a thing? There's quite a bit of convoluted backstory that is only provided context through each episodes opening montage, if you haven't seen those previous episodes it can be hard to make sense of it all.

I enjoy watching it for the great performances, but I feel the writing can become a bit contrived. There are certain ramifications of the narcotic trades that are highly over or under-shadowed depending on the momentum necessary for the plot to develop with precision. If you ignore the logical inconsistencies and glaring plot holes it's a pretty fun show.

If you really want a laugh check out their forums. Some of the actors have dropped in threads as well, including Elizabeth Perkins to correct some speculation on her statements regarding the upcoming season.
