10 November 2006

Went to the gym to lift some weights last night . . . [More:]

And boy, talk about a humbling experience! This desk-jockey gig has made me as soft as butter in the August heat.

I'm not going to reveal the numbers. It would be too humiliating. I gotta get serious about this fitness thing. Right now, I have the upper-body strength of an eight-year old.

Ah. lifting weights is overrated. Do some 12-oz curls with me, bro.

Lifting a pint doesn't count, hon. ;-)

If I didn't have boobs, I'd have the saddest bird chest in the world.

Like hell it dosen't. You should see my forearms....

*passes out*

(dude, if your doing this to look good for the ladies...I'm skinny and out of shape and I've done well for myself. 'Hot' is 99% attitude, my man.)

I so totally agree with you jon. Same goes for the ladies too. RRRRight?

Well, just to counteract naysayer jon, I think that you're doing an excellent thing getting yourself in shape, j_p. Healthy body, healthy mind, all that stuff. Lots of your posts lately have sounded really positive. Yay!

Keep it up. You'll feel better, have more energy and the more muscle you have the more calories you burn even at rest. Just make sure to eat lots of protein. Like 1 gram per pound of lean body mass.

I got sick of the gym scene years ago (I used to be a personal trainer and spent nearly all of my waking hours in the gym, either working or working out or hanging out).

I didn't want to stop working out, I just wanted to stop going to the gym. So I bought a Bowflex when they made me a great deal. Six years later, I still use it, am nearly as strong as I was when I was working out all the time and look decent in a tank top or playing beach volleyball.

Also, I ride my bike on my lunch break at least twice a week (except this week, of course). My loop is a nice and fun 5 miles on a single speed.

And I'm a desk monkey too. Keep it up, jason, look at this as the start of a long term deal. You will improve quite quickly for a while. If you want some secret tips, email me.

jonmc, attitude does indeed count for a helluva lot in the girl scoring dept. Attitude and a six pack (not the drinking kind) can go a real long ways too!

Stick to the pony size and you'll feel like a big man right away.

You probably wouldn't guess it to look at me, but I press 250 pounds. When I started a year ago, 40 pounds would leave me gasping. Truly, it is mind over matter.

If he's doing it becuase he thinks feeling better about himself and being healthier makes a person more attractive to the ladies, well..... he's right!

The amount of female attention I get (though still paltry by some standards) has increased by orders of magnitude since I started exercising regularly. I like having that attention, and frankly it makes my life easeier. People in general take me more seriously because they don't have to first get over their assumption that I'm a slob with no self-control. The attitude has always been there.

Ummm, no. I do not think that weight training = chick magnet. You're right to note that attitude counts for a lot as well. It's more the former -- I just want to look healthy and feel good about myself. And if that helps me in the romance department, great! But even if it doesn't, I've still got my health. I'll be sure to take you up on your kind offer of 12 oz curls, though. ;-)

Healthy body, healthy mind, all that stuff. Lots of your posts lately have sounded really positive. Yay!

Oh, yeah! Even if I didn't get any concrete physical results from working out, I'd still do it for the psychological relief it provides.

Yep. TPS has nailed it!

If you want some secret tips, email me.

Thank you! I shall.

And thanks to all of you for your advice and kind words of encouragement! You guys are awesome!

::sad that no one told me what I won::

Oh well. You go, boy!

Well, this is no regular eight year old, so don't feel bad j_p. Actually, this kid's parents sort of bother me, and I don't know why.

p.s. which gym are you going to, jasons_planet? If it's the NYSC in Woodside, I have a pilates teacher there who is GREAT (she teaches a class at my location, too).

A NEW CARRRRRR!!!!!!

You go, boy!

Awwww . . . you're making me blush.

I don't think that there is a NYSC in Woodside. I know that there is one in Astoria, which I will probably pick; it's a little more expensive than I'd prefer BUT I do remember it being clean and uncrowded.

Anyhow, I tried Pilates once and it was neat. Give me a name and I'll look her up!

Probably because kids aren't supposed to be doing heavy weight training before, say, the age of twelve or thirteen. Or so I've heard. That might be why.
