10 November 2006

I just found a local TV channel that broadcasts The Monkees, The Partridge Family and Welcome Back, Kotter in succession. [More:]I'm watching right now. I'm so happy. My cultural diet is similar to my gustatory one, yes. Also, Nathan's Crinkle Cut Fries are available for home consumption.

*hello, world it's a song that we're singing, c'mon get happy*

(I also have some apricot ale.)
Considering pips's day job Kotter hits home. She refers to one of her classes as her 'sweathogs.'

confession: i have the monkees on a tivo season pass, much to my wife's chagrin. she'll never understand.

I didn't care for the Partridge Family, The Monkees were "meh", but I liked Kotter, Travolta back then was blindingly cool

I know whatcha mean. I don't care how many oscar nominations he gets or how many serious movies he makes, he's Vinnie Babarino to me.

I didn't care for the Partridge Family,

They were bubblegums absoulte artistic zenith. and you know this.

and the Monkees were purely manufactured, but manufacture well and you get credit from me. Plus there was the bonus of Nesmith (writer of 'Different Drum')'s rebellion.

I've also decided that the Sweathog's are the TV template for the NYC MeCha posse. I, of course am Babarino. joe famous is Boom Boom, the Wino is Epstein and Hugh Janus can be Horshak.

three words - "pleasant valley sunday"

I was always partial to 'Valleri' myself.

I always had a crush on Horshack.

The Monkees are as gods, and whoever says not shall be blasted with hellfire.

I have spoken.

Also, I thought I was the only person on the planet with a crush on Epstein but it turns out that I was far from alone. Elder Gods bless the Intarwebs.

amberglow and rainbaby are both on record as having a thing for Epstein.

See? I'm in good company. Amberglow & Rainbaby have immaculate taste.

I think the new york mecha posse should be the cast of Waiting for Godot, we can all be Lucky and just use cardboard cutouts for Vladimir, Estragon, Pozzo and the boy.

Another vote for Epstein.
(NOT signed "Epstein's mother.")

Yes, I would say that Apricot Ale is exactly the beer equivalent of The Partridge Family.

Tonight I watched The Wizard of Oz on TV for the umpty-umpteenth time in the more than half a century I remember watching it, and now I'm making homemade rice pudding. The classics can't be improved upon.

I blame Welcome Back Kotter for North Americans' inability and/or refusal to pronounce Epstein correctly.

THE SECOND SYLLABLE IS PRONOUNCED WITH A LONG "I", NOT A LONG "E"!!!!!!!!!!!!

jonmc, your NYC MeCha posse doesn't have any girls in it, I notice - so it can't be a MeCha posse, sorry!!!!

In 1972 I had a letter about David Cassidy published in Tiger Beat magazine.

This is kinda on-topic, but does anyone else remember the show "Lancelot Link: Secret Chimp"? The show was a Get Smart parody with human voiceovers and monkeys. What's not to love about that? Apparently it was released on DVD this past summer!

I need the DVD (and lots of pot) now.

I used to have Tiger Beat magazines, with the "posters" taped all over my walls. And I ,too, had a thing for Epstein. And I liked it when Washington said "Hi there." in that deeper voice.
I think I had David Cassidy, Willie Ames, Scott Baio, and Leif Garrett on my walls in those days.
