It's Photo Friday! The theme is "Black and White," to be interpreted however you like. (IOW, it doesn't just refer to black and white photography, but it can if you want it to.)
Someone was at Target!

I took this at a New Years Eve party last January with my old point & shoot & then tweaked it from into this b&w thing, which I have always really liked.

That looks like a scene out of an old 60s drive-in type movie, mgl... awesome.

And yep iconomy, I made my annual Xmas decoration run at Target this week... but didn't come home with an overpriced monochrome tree. ;)

I'm doing a lot of black and white these days. This is just the most recent one.

I cheated. This used to be in color. This is the back side of the hill which has the Hollywood sign. This side of the hill faces Glendale instead of Hollywood. That is a TV antenna.

I love your first picture, BP! It looks almost like a coffin or Sleeping Beauty. It's very creepy!

My nephew decided he wanted to create costumes when he was visiting. Somehow they all ended up being black and white, so there you go.

Here's the Agro Nephew as a ninja, a phantom stalker, and a vampire bunny.

cortex, the elevator shot ROCKS.

agro, your nephew makes a great phantom stalker! (That's meant as a compliment.)

halonine, yours is GORGEOUS! I'd love to see that blown up to large size. I bet it'd make a great print.

mats, I saw that girder pic of yours on Flickr and meant to comment on it- I love the pure geometry of it.

There's no such thing as black and white; just different shades of blue and brown and green and red and...grey.

This was one of the first photos I ever took with a digital camera:

Daniel Charms, that pic of your sis is stunning.

richat, those photo booth strips are always fun... love the faces on yours. :D

ico, how'd you get the scanlines on the pic with the books and magnifying glass?

pie, I love the texture on that pic of the wooden window... just amazing.

And speaking of amazing, WOW is that fireworks picture incredible, misteraitch!!

BP, it's a plug-in, but I can't remember the name of it - I'll look it up when I get home. It's similar to, but not, this.

And by the way, this thread is now officially broken in Firefox -- too many pictures. Any idea why this keeps happening?

What's happening with it? I'm viewing in FF, but not 2.0.

O RLY? Looks fine to me. (using Firefox 2.0)
posted by pieisexactlythree 10 November | 14:48
Haven't had the chance to upgrade to 2.0 yet, still in 1.0.6. I know someone else was having the same problem a week or two ago and posted about it, but I don't remember who.

Screenshot here.
posted by mudpuppie 10 November | 14:53
I'm using 1.0.7. and it's broken for me too. mudpuppie's photos freeze while downloading and then the whole thread gets all mumbly jumbly. So weird - MetaChat's the only site where it happens. I'll take a screenshot of what I see, although it changes every time I refresh. (I'm posting this using IE). I don't want to take away anymore from Photo Friday thing so I'll start a new thread.

It looks best embiggened.

The rest of the set is here.

I'm using 1.8 (if I'm reading it right) and it looks fine to me.
posted by deborah 10 November | 15:23
Gah. Mine are so lame compared to everyone else's.
posted by deborah 10 November | 15:24
Here's one that looks great as a print but looks like poo on the internets. The large size at flickr looks ok, so please click through there for the semi-full effect. (The print is 11x17, so this pixel thingie isn't so good)

(Just for comparison, this photo was taken at the same time, just shows the different mood B&W can create)

Deborah, you're right, it looks very good "embiggened".
Iconomy, I love the bookshelf photo.

well I tried uploading some yesterday but mecha wasn't accepting my flickr links... let's see how this goes. I really do NOT understand mecha and how it parses the 'a href' tag...

some of you have seen some of these before. click the links if they dont come thru as inline images I guess...

lfr, all you need to do it take the url you provided (in this example, http://static.flickr.com/85/275048200_fb85fb6ac7.jpg) and click the "image" button below the text editing box...then paste the url into it. Then, you get something that looks like this:

Pie, let me know if those B&Ws are up on Flickr so I can favorite them.

Everyone who's posting from Flickr, please copy the full text from the "copy and paste this HTML into your webpage" box on the "All Sizes" page - it's part of Flickr's terms of service that you have to include the link when you post your Flickr images on other websites. Some of the link will make the Mecha code choke, so delete the entire "title" attribute from the <a> tag, and delete the "width", "height", and "alt" attributes from the <img> tag.
