I don't know how i feel about this.... [More:]On one hand, i admire the gesture of Thabo Mbeki. However, the pain that Botha wrought on the black people of South Africa cannot be denied, so to have dignified his funeral by making an appearance leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

I guess i'll just have to process it some more.
I'd like to think I could be as classy as Mbeki in that situation, but really, I don't think I'd be able to resist opening up the casket and urinating on Botha's corpse, grinning hugely the whole time.

Every time I hear about the nation that South Africa has become since apartheid ended I get a little hope for humanity. I know there have been rough spots, but the Truth and Reconciliation hearings are/were truely the hallmark of a civilization that wanted to put its past behind it. Were I in charge, the best Botha could hope for would be a quick burial in a shallow, unmarked grave. Mbeki is clearly a better person than I am.

Maybe he just wanted to make sure he was dead.

Yeah, when no one was looking, he drove a stake through his heart, then shot him with a silver bullet, just in case.
