AP says Dems have 51 in Senate! Congratulations guys, I didn't think you could take 'em both.
Wow. I'm going to go to sleep before my head explodes. Some very experienced lobbyists told me they didn't expect a complete rollover till 2008.
Now, of course, we have to hope we don't have a compulsive sex addict or a political-outsider peanut farmer whack the pendulum way back over the other way after 2008. Meaning no disrespect, Mr Carter.
As an aside, does anyone remember that episode of the animated batman series where the mad hatter has batman hooked up to some machine and he keeps having dreams where everything is just a little too perfect?
Thats what this is like. I'm imagining waking up tomorrow to find this was all a fiendish plot by some madman controlling my thoughts.
Just to clarify my position, I dislike much of the Democratic agenda, but I can live with it. However, I intensely hate two or three items of the Republican agenda, and Shrub Inc. just happens to personify those particular traits, directions that I feel are not only bad for the United States as a country, but debilitating for humans as an intelligent, evolving species.

51? How so? Surely it's 49 each if the Dems win Virginia.
I'm fond of computer games, civil liberties, accountable politicians, and a few other things that I daresay Lieberman gives not a hoot about or is even actively opposed to.
Doesn't this mean that Jeffords and Lieberman will become the most powerful politicians in the US? Or do I not understand US politics? (I'll admit to losing interest in West Wing roughly five and a bit years ago for obvious reasons).
Would someone mind explaining how this is likely to work, please? Also does impeachment require 2/3 of Congress, 2/3 of the Senate, or 2/3 of House of Reps plus 2/3 of Senate? Thanks.
Ah, stilicho has answered my question. I think. Maybe.
I was trying to remember how it worked with Clinton.
The Dems are now in a position to impeach (they can get the proceedings started) but without 2/3 of something that they don't have two thirds of, not convict. So GW could end up like Clinton, impeached but found not guilty. Is that right?
I doubt the Dems will move for impeachment. They have to be seen building bridges, patching things up, and moving into the future. Prosecuting what would inevitably be empty gestures would paint the Dems as no better than the corrupt parasites that have latched onto the Republicans over the last few decades.
Shrub has two years to save his historical legacy concerning Iraq. Allowing the Legislature to play an active role in the issue would do much for improving his future reputation.
