Guilty food pleasure What are your guilty pleasure foods? Mine are bean burritos from Taco Bell, no cheese, extra onions, lots of hot sauce. [More:]I have no idea why I enjoy and sometimes crave them. I like real burritos, and there's no shortage of good Mexican food in Chicago, but sometimes I just have to have Taco Bell, as I did for lunch today.
When it comes to what I put in my stomach, I have no guilt. or shame.

Chips and salsa. Also, those Lipton Noodles 'n' Sauce things.

Kraft Mac'n'Cheese, with canned tuna fish and Kraft grated parmesan, stirred into a sticky paste.

It looks gross. It smells gross. It tastes delicious.

green bean casserole! mmm tasty mush!

Mmm. I would have to say either big, fat sandwich made with malted granary bread, a generous smearing of butter, huge chunks of strong cheddar and a thick coating of mayo over said cheese. Or a chip butt iewith think white bread, generous butter, fried chips and ketchup. Oh yeah.

Cheese, butter, AND mayo? Wow.

Mine is Doritos.

Cheese, butter, AND mayo? Wow

Oh yeah, and lots of each. Soooo tasty. Also, that should have said "chip buttie with" as opposed to "chip butt iewith", which doesn't make any sense at all.

I used to make chicken and mushroom pie sandwiches: take one single-portion supermarket chicken+mushroom pie, put it in microwave with thick layer of cheese. Whilst cooking, take two thick slices of white bread, add butter + ketchup. Remove pie from microwave - poke holes in top to let some of the steam out. Sandwich pie in between bread. Eat. Burn mouth badly.

A massive health kick has since ensued, but I still miss those babies.

Fries and mayo
Vanilla shakes
Ben & Jerry's phish food or half baked
PB & J on a hot tortilla (I kid you not)
Vegemite and cheese on white bread, zapped in the microwave for 40 seconds. Oh yeah.

Oh yeah, I'm a big chip buttie fan, TheDonF. LOOOOTS of butter, please.

Mostly, I'm with jonmc; no guilt or shame here. But I do feel a little uncomfortable when I tell people I like eating raw beef. It's delicious, either in a grilled cheese or on crackers.

Pork rinds.

gaspode: and it has to be salted butter. Unsalted, although good for some things, is no good for chip butties. The butter has to be spread thick and be soaking into the bread, the chips and maybe slightly dripping onto your fingers. Oh God I'm really hungry now and I've only got fruit in the house. FRUIT DAMMIT!
posted by TheDonF 07 November | 17:09
Greg Nog, aren't there some serious risks involved in eating raw beef? I mean, I eat sushi, but it's sushi grade fish, and has been flash-frozen.
posted by Specklet 07 November | 17:12
I ate some raw beef a few weeks ago. I didn't die ::shrugs:: It strikes me as one of those things that's probably on the fence- sick people and pregnant ladies definitely should say no, but the rest of us, eh.

Is there any other kind?

Pho Bac, with a side of fresh spring rolls and a asian pear bubble tea!

And you can get me to help you hide a body with lemon bars or fresh baked chocolate chip cookies...

Kraft macaroni and cheese. The whole box.

Chunky peanut butter and jelly with butter on whole wheat toast and a big glass of chocolate milk.

Salami and provolone on a hard roll.

Boardwalk hot dog and fries.

Woo! As a non-pregnant non-lady, I have received TPS's approval! As far as the comparison to sushi-grade fish, I do only eat grass-fed organic beef if I'm eating it raw. But I dunno if that makes a difference or not.

Also: HELLS YES on eating the whole box of Kraft Mac and Cheese, Miko. That's a single serving right there, as far as I'm concerned.

The cardboard must be hard to digest. When it comes to mac & cheese, I'm a Stouffers guy. It was better pre-microwaves though. Cooked in the oven it gets that great crust. Yay for crust. I used to mash the crust in then douse it in salt & pepper, in imitation of my dad. My Dad has a true Irishman's plate, burnt meat. potatoes and boiled veggies, and I thank god everyday that I inherited my Italian mother's adventurous palate, but on the mac & cheese, Dad was dead on.

Damn straight with the salted butter, TheDonF.

and OMG lemon bars, black8... yuuuuummm....

Spaghetti-Os with little sliced franks. Jon looks for them for me at the market. I like them cold, straight outta the can, with a side of bread and butter (dipped into the sauce). Cream corn's good cold, straight outta the can, too. (I was thinkin' maybe it's cause we didn't always have gas or electricity when I was a kid.)

My birth mother also used to make this yummy sandwich with chicken roll and Miracle Whip on a toasted english muffin. Yum. It really needs to be Weaver chicken roll, though, to be authentic, and I can't seem to find that anymore. Mmmm... Miracle Whip. The perfect food. Sometimes I just gob it onto bread by itself and chow down. I can't leave a fresh jar alone.

(I also love the Taco Bell bean burrito... hold the onions, please. And that chip butt thing sounds quite tasty, too.)

Miko's arm or shoulder is the front-runner these days. I was also very fond of my dog's front paw pads for a good gnaw if he was amenable.

Dog pad rules!

In-n-Out Burger's grilled cheese sandwiches, no onions,no tomato.

Dried Montmorency cherries (not Morello or Bing or Rainier). As many as I want, since fruit is healthy, right?

I love any kind of food that people bring to potlucks and such. Ambrosia. Broccoli salad. Pretzel salad. Jello with fruit in it. That multi-layer taco dip.
posted by jrossi4r 07 November | 20:15
Oh, has anyone else ever had glory rice? Cook white rice in milk and sugar. Dump in a few cans of fruit cocktail and some crushed walnuts. Mix in whipped cream (not cool whip). Yummy-licious! No one else will even try this, so I never get to make it. I'd love to have a midwest-themed dinner party with dishes like this.

Potato chips and root beer. Or,
Buttery popcorn and Sprite. Or my current favorite,

Hot italian sausage from a local italian butcher on garlic bread with lightly sauted tomatos and onions.
posted by mischief 07 November | 20:42
Pickles, that sounds awesome. Exactly the kind of oddness that leads to deliciousness!
posted by jrossi4r 07 November | 20:52
What, pray tell, is pretzel salad? I'm intrigued. And I love me some pretzels, especially with beer. Does pretzel salad go well with beer?
posted by smich 07 November | 21:11
It's pretzels and butter topped with cream cheese and jello and strawberries. It sounds kind of gross. But it's so not gross. I wish I had someone right now.
posted by jrossi4r 07 November | 23:05
smirch, you might like this midwestern dish. Make a pie crust out of crushed pretzels. Fill crust with jello. Top with Cool Whip. Chill. Slice and serve.
posted by pickles 07 November | 23:11
I am traditional: a big fat cheeseburger with bacon (make that cheddar please). A a ton of fries with a bucket of ketchup. I just got done killing one. Yum.

Late night snack: saltines with cream cheese and jam.

Fosters Freeze "chocolate" dipped cones.

Velveeta single slices.

Gelato from Naia.
posted by small_ruminant 07 November | 23:49
Hrmmm...pretzel salad sounds good except for the jello. Jello gives me the willies for some reason. But I like the idea of the salty, crunchy pretzels as the pie crust with the other stuff.

When it comes to what I put in my stomach, I have no guilt. or shame.

Word up. That's how I've come to develop my powerful physique and resistance to illness. Although unlike jon lad I don't really like super processed junk food. 'Ceptin' slim jims, ain't nothin better than a slim jim, 'cept maybe the indie 500 or two slim jims and a long slug of vodka...

In the vein of cheap food though, I am partial to a subway tuna salad sandwich with tomato, provalone, onions and black olives, stink mouf!!

White bread:

Toast it, smother it with butter and sprinkle on cinnamon sugar until it's so thick it cracks into canyons when you lift the bread.

or

Make it into a grilled cheese (cheddar) sandwich (grilled with lots of butter) with crispy bacon and grilled onions added to the cheese. I usually have a bit of mustard to dip it in.

I also adore McD's biscuit (sausage, egg and cheese) breakfast sandwiches. You can't get them in Canada so I always make sure to have at least one when visiting Mum in Everett.

I grew up on a dairy farm, and one of the treats was saltines scooping up fresh churned butter.
posted by mischief 08 November | 00:25
Oh yum. *Wants to go to McDs with deborah* *Also wants to make grilled cheese sammiches with deborah*

Speaking of white bread, I used to eat peanut butter and butter sandwiches. I still crave them from time to time, but I don't have to courage any more. I'm afraid they'll taste much worse now than they did at 10.

Lately, it's been Twix's Mint Slice ("A Delicious Mix of Dark Chocolate, Minty Caramel and Crunchy Chocolate Biscuit"). It's a new product being test-marketed in Kiwi- and Ozland, and it's KILLER with cold milk.

Northerners, tell your Men from Mars that you want it too!
