I first heard about Motherfucker parties shortly after I moved to NYC; someone in my college dorm was giving out invites. I keep meaning to go to one, but never get around to it.
I haven't gotten an invite in forever. They're open to the public, though (with a cover- invite gets you a discount). Motherfucker parties always occur on holidays (or the day before a holiday- like the night before Memorial Day).
Not 'not welcome' as in 'they'd forcefully turn me away,' unwelcome as in 'they wouldn't like me' and I probably wouldn't like them. It'd basically be a stalemate of mutual disgust, is what I'm saying.
I can't imagine they turn anyone away (actually, I think they only turn away people not adhering to whatever the ultra weird dress code is for that party). Look at those pictures, some of those people are frightening, lol.
That's just not true, jon. I show up to shit like that looking how I normally do (more importantly, mr. g looking how he normally does, which is to say, jeans, band t-shirt, flannel ring any bells?? -- all the time.
Somehow, pode, you and mr pode don't strike me as being like the people in those pics. Besides, I'm waaay too old for that kind of stuff and I'd feel out of place anyway.
Yea, the pictures definitely make the parties look very strange.
I dunno about that. Seems more like a bunch of kids playing dress-up and working very hard to convince themselves and others that they aren't boring. There are people I've met in ordinary corner bars who are much weirder than these folks, but don't wear it on their sleeve.
I'm not bitter. I just see this stuff hyped as something amazing and it irks me. It's Studio 54 with some fake blood. Some ex-prom queen going 'look, I'm showing my boobies! I'm so transgressive and stuff!' Snore.
Well, CBGB has just been a glorified t-shirt shop for the past few years, so I think your nostalgia is a little misplaced, jon.
And yeah, mr pode & I totally go to things like that. They are what you make of them, and frankly I dont' sit around judging and making assumptions about other people while there, and I assure you that very few of them would be doing the same to you.
(it's this attitude that constantly baffles me why you hang out so much in St. Marks. It's full, full of the people you purport to hate)
