Let's all go to the moooovieeees.... I never get to go to the movies. I have two little kids, one with "special needs," and I never ever ever get to go to the movies... until tomorrow! What should I see? I'm in the mood for something funny and / or escapist, but not dumb.
marie antoinette is barely better then The truth about cats and dogs. So look for something else.

You might want to have a look at rotten tomatoes.

This might fit escapist, though not funny, and I've been hearing good things about it:

The Prestige

With Bowie as Tesla, it should stand a shot, no?

Jesus Camp is funny, if you've got a mean sick dark sense of humor, and if you're part of the choir to which it's preaching, but it's probably not escapist.

Little Miss Sunshine is hilarious, and possibly escapist, depending on your tastes. Running with Scissors is equal parts hilarious and heartbreaking and definitely not escapist, but it is extremely good (just saw it last night). The Illusionist is quite escapist and great fun as well, but it's not a comedy. (I haven't seen The Prestige yet, but that's next on my list.)

I recommend the Illusionist -- as iconomy says, it's not a comedy, but not a downer either - just a good tale. The Prestige is on my list, too, continuing the fin-de-seicle-magician theme.

I ended up seeing the Illusionist, which was dandy. If you see one movie this year...
