The Stakeout as Male Bonding Experience This story happened to a guy I met off some dating system or other.

[More:]In his early twenties “Mike” was dating a woman, “Melissa”, whom he suspected was cheating on him. One night a friend of his, “Don”, called him up and said, “Dude, we were down at the bar and we saw Melissa leaving with some guy. Let’s go over to her house and stake her out and see when she comes home.”

Mike said, nah, he didn’t really want to, but Don was persistent, and said things like, “Dude, you gotta do it. I’ve always wanted to stake someone out and this is my big chance. I’ll bring my camera!” Mike yielded, thinking, well, it might be kind of fun to hang out with Don.

So Don came over to Mike’s place, picked him up, and they drove over to Melissa’s house, stopping at a convenience store on the way to load up on chips and pop.

They parked outside Melissa’s house and waited for awhile, scarfing down chips and shooting the breeze.

Then at about midnight, a car pulled up in front of the house and out of it emerged… a guy Mike recognized as Melissa’s ex-fiancé, whom she had told Mike was still in love with her. Ex-fiancé was carrying flowers. Mike grabbed Don’s camera and jumped out of Don’s car. He acted as though he was just a jogger until he got up close to the ex-fiancé, then dropped into a crouch and snapped a picture of him. The flash lit up the entire street. Ex-fiancé was wildly startled, dropped the flowers, jumped in his car and took off.

The rest of the night was uneventful. Melissa finally showed up at about eight the next morning, because she had in fact gone home with some other guy. Mike broke up with her, and her ex-fiancé left her alone after that. But I'm sure the deck didn't remain clear for too long.
My life is so boring.

that help?

Stakeout as male bonding experience? Interesting. Perhaps a subgenre of gay porn will arise wround the stakeout.

Although one interesting thing involving stakeouts did happen to me. The last time I got really, really drunk, my friends and I went to see Stakeout at a midnight showing, and five minutes into the movie, I had to stumble erratically to the restroom and heave my guts out. Again. And. Again. And. Again.

Well, it wasn't boring. Wondering if the next hurl is going to eject any internal organs along with the trickle of stomach acid can make things interesting.

Never did see the movie. And to this day I get queasy at the thought of rum 'n' cokes.

O RLY?

alright, i'm here to sherlock holmes your story. so what me and angela landsbury are wonderin now is -

Who observed Melissa returning home at 8am the next morning? Surely it wasn't "Mike" and "Don", right? Because they would presumably have thought they had gotten what they came for when the ex-fiance showed up and then left instead of staking out and staying awake all night.

So, who else was staking out Melissa's place in order to observe her return home the next morning, eh eh eh?

Or, are you the "Melissa" of this story, Madame Swan?

Mike and Don stayed there all night. The whole purpose of the stake out was to find out what Melissa was up to. The ex-fiancé experience was purely serendipitous.

Ah!

Still, Matlock, Encyclopedia Brown and that Landsbury character what's name I can't remember will NOT be thrown off from solving this mystery!

What kind of flowers did the ex-fiance have? Those cheap plastic ones? We'll need photogenic evidence, I believe.

Furthermore, I note that you mentioned Mike and Don bought chips and pop for the stakeout, but only moments later, you say that they
"parked outside Melissa’s house and waited for awhile, scarfing down chips and shooting the breeze."

So, what happened to all the 'pop' then eh? After 'scarfing' chips, one would think they may have whetted their respective whistles with some of that pop you claim they brought! But according to your account, they did nothing of the sort!

Shooting the breeze, were they? Breeze is so hard to shoot, that I imagine they would have used up any film or available digital storage space just trying to get a good shot of it prior to the alleged arrival of the ex-fiance, making it impossible to then take his photo!

Trying to understand this stakeout story is like trying to pin mercury to a corkboard with a thumbtack!
