Okay, I watched. And I feel like I have to come clean -- I cried. Because it's hormone time, and because they were underdogs, and because David Eckstein is so little and cute, and because Kenny Rogers is a douchebag. But the point is, I'm a stupid World Series victory-weeper.
That was a good ending, Eckstein is the shizzle and brought it to the post season. I liked this series. But I didn't cry. I had kids and a hound to attend to. The poopy diapers about made me cry though!
Everybody was saying that the Tigers would win in four. That the Cards couldn't beat 'em. They said they couldn't beat the Mets either. That is why I started cheering for 'em. Good on ya, birdies. St. Louis is one of the closest baseball teams to me - about five (or six? dunno) hours away, so they are as close as I have to a "home team" to cheer for anyway. Well, the Royals are closer. But geez. The Royals? Even though the owner lives in Bentonville, it just ain't gonna happen. Nor are they going to see a WS anytime soon.
They simply played stellar baseball. Eck became the embodiment of every clutch player there ever was. And La Russa, well, he just continues to solidify his position as one of the greatest managers in the history of the game.
But for my money, it was Yadier Molina who held it all together. He's a better defensive catcher than Yeager or Bench.
At minimum, 13 of the 25 on that team are Cooperstown bound.
I felt horrible watching the Tigers last night - I've never seen a team less prepared for the Bright Lights than this one. They all to a man looked nervous and scared, total deer-in-headlights. After Inge booted that throw to first, I thought he was going to cry.
Having said that, I'm bummed they lost. Hats off to the Cards for keeping their shit together and not getting blown away by the Big Time.
