Wasn't this part of Alexei Sayle's schtich back in the eighties? They're all gonna shave their heads, get stubbly and yell amusingly about Thatcher next.
Earlier this year I attended my younger brother's wedding in Rome. The first time our family would meet any of her family would be at the wedding in our formal wear, and some of our family aren't known for formal wear. My older brother did not own a suit.
Adding to the pressure was the fact that our new brother-in-law is a men's fashion designer, having designed the clothes for Rolling Stones tours and currently one of the chief designer of men's suits for Prada.
He would be dressing the bride and the groom.
So we all did our best to compete, and it wasn't until the reception that we got a look at what he was wearing. You guessed it: tiny suit. Grey jacket, fabric stretched were it just barely buttoned. Black pants, ankles partially exposed. Brown shoes, no socks.
Man, did he show us. He was so far ahead we didn't know what to think.
Oh, and if you are wondering how he dressed the bride and groom:
The bride wore a hand-stitched tight-bodiced dress that was decorated with beads and pearls. It was slightly asymetrical with exposed seems that were not finished, but kind of frayed. It didn't look shoddy though, it looked very elegant.
My brother wore a Prada suit that was one size smaller than he usually would wear, but the sleeves and pants were normal length. It didn't look small or tight on him, just kind of painted on.
I think I have a photo CD he sent me somewhere, maybe I can post one tomorrow. As I recall, there aren't many pictures of the brother-in-law, as most people were too taken aback by it, like photographing him would be pointing at him or something.
If this is a trend I have a problem. Sort of like when soul patches were in. I could never resist pulling out a tissue and saying "Dude, come here a sec. You have something on your face!" After a quick wipe, "Oh! It's attached!"
