I want to be a star! A bunch of us at work have gotten the idea for a group Halloween costuming effort: to come as a bunch of famous Hollywood actresses. We've all been picking characters - we've got a Marilyn Monroe, an Audrey Hepburn, a Liz Taylor, a Grace Kelly. But I'm at a loss to decide who I should be. I want my costume to be fairly easy to put together and easily recognizable. Well, MetaChatters, if you're visited by inspiration, please share same with me.
Cher.

You've got the red hair so: Rita Hayworth.

Or, if Cher's too modern, Katherine Hepburn. Or Vivien Leigh if you wanna do the Scarlett O'Hara or Blanche du Bois thing. Joan Crawford and Bette Davis are harder to make instantly recognizable, although some people do the Joan Crawford thing by using big shoulder pads.

OMG Katharine Hepburn all the way.

Red hair? Maybe Lucille Ball?

If it helps, I'm a well-endowed redhead.

Suggestions from my workmates so far have been: Rita Hayworth, Sophia Loren, Ann-Margret.

If I were going to be Crawford, I could hang a wire hanger around my neck or use it as a belt or something;-)

Yep, that helps.

Ann-Margret.

Perfect. Get the go-go boots and the mod minidress and you'll be stylin'

Yes, Ann-Margret, definitely.

If you do Ann-Margret, you mustn't forget the baked beans!

I was just going to mention that!

I second (third) Joan Crawford. Wide shoulders, throw a wire-hanger in there somewhere, giant thick eyebrows. Have a mean look on your face all night and say things like, "I'll ALWAYS be better than you" and "you are special because you were CHOSEN, Christina."

Someone suggested Natalie Wood in a MeTa thread a while ago, which would be good. You could have wet hair, smudged make-up, seaweed hanging off your dress, etc.
But I guess you're going for glamour.

I think I've settled on Ann-Margret. I can assemble an outfit that looks passably like this famous one from Viva Las Vegas from my closet. Red top, leggings, heels, and I'll do my hair on hot rollers. Check, check, check, and check.

I'd suggest Marlene Dietrich, specifically in The Blue Angel. You've definitely have the face to pull that off. Why that film? It's sexy, and you get to wear a hat. Oh, and remember lots and lots of eye makeup. And a cigarette in a holder (even if you don't smoke). And attitude. Also, don't smile much, just look coldly alluring.

Clara Bow--the "IT girl" was a red-head.

Zack_Replica, Dietrich would be so fun to do! It's going to take much more work and expense than Ann-Margret, but she'd be so much more easily recognized and infinitely cooler.

Very tempted....
