Goddam holiday travel. Shit! [More:]

My office shuts down from December 14 - January 3. That's nice and all, but I don't get paid for any of that, so there's two and a half weeks of salary I just don't get. And since I have the time off, I need to go see my mom and my grandfather, both in Florida. But. The fucking ticket prices are through the roof (unless I'm willing to take a red-eye, which I'm not, because then I'll lose TWO days to travel fatigue and shit). AND they won't let me take the gliders on the plane.

So not only do I not get paid for over two weeks, I have to shell out hundreds of dollars for a plane ticket, and leave the gliders at home! Either I go for a shorter amount of time, disappointing my family, or go for a longer time, leaving the gliders alone and stressed.

And I don't even celebrate Christmas! Fuck!
AND they won't let me take the gliders on the plane.

How would they even know? There are all sorts of ways you could sneak them on....

Falalala lala lala

AND they won't let me take the gliders on the plane.

that is a really weird sentence.

Yeah, sneaking stuff onto planes is a really good idea these days...

Also, specklet, you should go there for half the time, and convince family members to come visit you for the other half...

Sneaking them on is not an option. They could take them away if I got caught, at the very least.

dersins, I'd love it if they could come visit me, but my grandfather doesn't travel well, and my mom doesn't have money for a plane ticket (she'll probably be able to help me out with mine, though)...

I found a flight for $500, staying a week and a half.

Fuck, I hope the gliders don't get all stressed about me not being there. They're not good with change. Maybe I could get someone to stay here.

Where in Florida, specklet?

Ugh, that's awful Specklet. Florida ticket prices can be insane- I bought mine several months ago to beat the rush (plus, dog seating tends to fill up fast, so I book early so I can get a good flight that the dog can come on, too).

On preview: $500!!!!! Awful.

I'd be happy to help out with caring for the little guys any way I can.

Thanks pie! That's very sweet of you!

Yeah, I couldn't buy my plane ticket early. What with changing jobs and all, I only found out what the deal was a week ago. $500 is the rock bottom. I can go down to $415 or so with a red-eye, but I'm not willing to do that.

My mother is in Gainesville, my grandfather and uncle are in Ft. Lauderdale. I'll be flying into Jacksonville.

$500 freaking dollars. And no gliders. FUCK.

You know what? At least I'll get to see my family. At least (even if rent will be late) I can manage a ticket.

The gliders will be okay.

Right?

I'll coo at them softly if it will help.

They'll be fine. It'll be fine. You'll be fine. And you get to see family. So, yeah.

I know this won't help but trying making travel arrangements for four, including a two and a half year old and a six month old baby. You want to talk gouging? It is obscene.

And we're not going anywhere anymore unless we can drive.

Good lord, that was stressful.

After finding a ticket for $500, I entered in all my info. The reservation system didn't like my credit card and asked for another. I entered in another, and lo and behold, THE TICKET PRICE WENT UP TO $620.

There was hair pulling involved, there was swearing involved, there might have been a tear or two.

Then I went to the airline site directly and got the ticket for $460. I had to add another stop-over, and I get into Portland at 2.30 AM, but fuck it, I get to spend a couple hours in the Las Vegas airport late at night.

Jesus, though, I thought I was going to throw the laptop there for a second.

And I'm going for two weeks. The gliders will deal.

Right?

On preview: Gah, fenriq! I'll stop bitching now.

Gah! I just looked at tickets home, and they're 500 dollars, San Antonio to Sacramento, too! Plus I'd have to either rent a car (250-300 dollars) or take a 3 hour bus ride to get from Sac to my hometown.

Going home for christmas is complicated.

hey, make a stop-over in Ohio and visit me

3 hour bus ride to get from Sac to my hometown.

I grew up 3 hours or so away from Sacramento! In Redding. My parents and most of my friends moved away so I never go back there.

Try checking flights from Austin, too. I sometimes have saved $200 flying out of SAT rather than AUS so now I always check both and sometimes Austin is cheaper [even if you have to park at the airport].

The gliders will be fine. They'll miss you like crazy, and be very happy when you are home. Then you can tell them all kinds of stories about your family and they'll be happy. Don't worry. Enjoy your family.

Is there a web service that can do this? || I'm roasting some poblanos right now.
