Chris Rose a columnist for the New Orleans Times-Picayune, describes his experiences with depression following Hurricane Katrina. Really well written column, from a writer who was skeptical about the medical validity of depression.

Although I never doubted that depression exists, all my life I thought I was just carrying normal baggage. Then I sat through National Lampoon's Vacation crying my eyes out.

Chris's article is a great follow-up to this MetaFilter thread, which some people should re-read. It's called compassion. I'm just sayin'.
