I learned a new word today! [More:]"SpySpace!"

I received a surprise phone call this morning from someone I used to date back in the late 90's. Just a sort of "it's been a long time; what're you up to these days" kind of thing.

Anyway, she said, "I tried to SpySpace you, but I couldn't find you."

"Huh?" I responded. "You tried to WhatWhat me?"

"SpySpace you," she said.

Apparently, SpySpacing is when you see what your exes (and possibly their current partners) are doing via obsessive checking of their MySpace pages, comments, pictures, etc.

Who knew?

Well, maybe everybody did except me. I don't even HAVE a MySpace page.

Anyway, I like the term "SpySpace." It's funny.
The next evolution of GoogleStalking.

I hate MySpace and refuse to either go there or to create a page there. That's how cool I am.

That's yet another reason why I try to have the most impersonal web presence I can manage. Ultimately I'd like a google search on my real name to just turn up mailing list posts about software things.

Well, don't EVER join in the MetaFilter CD swap, then. Dreama posted a google-able list of all participants with real names AND their corresponding user names.

She has failed to respond to emails from me and at least one other person regarding this page.

I discovered it by googling my full name, and, no, I'm not going to link to it.

This goes right along with having common names in the States, doesn't it? Un-Googlable.

And it it's also why I treat the www like national parks... I carry my garbage out with me and leave no trace...

Eesh, I see what you mean. That's really fucked up.

I mean, I think it was just an oversight, since the rest of the mefi-swap site required logins, but it troubles me that she has failed to address the issue or even respond to emails from at least two different participants who have concerns.
