Alien egg sac removal. Anyone have any experience with it?[More:]

I'm seeing the doc today about a pea-sized ganglion cyst on my inner right wrist. Which I have affectionately referred to as an alien egg sac. I'm a tad nervous since it's my dominant hand, but it's getting to be a nuisance. The cyst, not my hand. Besides, I thought jonmc's mystery arm hair could use some company.
The old-fashioned remedy for this used to be "hit it with the family Bible", because that would usually disperse the fluid in the cyst under the skin.

Today they're normally drained by aspiration, but the Bible thing sounds much cooler, especially for the casual observer. If they decide to hit it with a bible, make sure you video it and upload it to YouTube.

If you're an atheist, hit it with a copy of "The Ancestor's Tale" by Richard Dawkins, "The Structure of Evolutionary Theory" by Steven Jay Gould, or a similarly large tome.

LOL should I really hit it with a book? The doc says leave it alone it's harmless. But it looks stupid.

I should hope so. If it looked smart, then you'd be in trouble.

Glad to hear to doc says it's harmless, though.

'Round these parts its referred to as a Bible Bump for exactly the reason jan stated.

My husband has one on each foot. We tried to smack them with a copy of America: The Book by Jon Stewart, but it didn't seem to work. They're not painful, but they are partisan.

chewie - the mister has had surgery on both wrists for the same thing. The docs left them alone until they became painful. The initial healing takes about six weeks or so. It was almost a year before it was back to normal. Note: this was his left wrist, I wasn't in the picture when his right wrist was a problem.

Oh, and drop me an email if you want more info. I'll have the mister fill you in on the details.

Thanks Deborah. I'm kinda hoping it goes away on its own. Dano, you made me laugh.
