Ask Metachat.... I almost never take cold medicines, so I'm at a loss here. I'm extremely congested, and I'm giving a presentation in 2 hours. What's the absolute best thing to take? What time should I take it to have the least congestion between 4 and 5:30 pm?
Espresso.

No, I'm not kidding.

Drink some Airborne right now.

Espresso clears congestion? Huh...

Isn't Airborne meant to prevent colds? Not treat the symptoms?

Espresso works just as well for me as the drugs with pseudoepinephrine (or whatever it is they're using now to trick the meth makers). They're both basically uppers.

If you have to take a decongestant, though, I'd suggest you only take half if you're not used to them.

It might make you feel a little better. Plus, you can take it in addition to something else.

So be it. Espresso and Airborne. Thanks, and wish me luck!

Seriously? Anything with ephedrine will help you, Agro.

Not so seriously? Cocaine, if you have it. Best short-term cold cure on the planet.

Afrin nasal spray. Back in high school, I used to be incredibly skilled at getting terrible colds whenever there was an important speech competition, and so I spent a lot of time figuring out which cold medications worked best for me. I found Afrin to be faster-working and more effective than pseudoephedrine.

Be warned that, while it works extremely well, Afrin is physically addictive. See rhinitis medicamentosa. Don't overuse it. I try to avoid ever using it, frankly.
