I'm stone fucking deaf. And the Dictators rule![More:] Ross the Boss, Andy, Top Ten & Thunderbolt were tight as a drum and Handsome Dick was the consummate frontman. Hearing "Who Will Save Rock and Roll?" in a soon-to-be-closed CBGB's was kind of eerie and moving. The openers, The Bullys were excellent and the Sic F*cks were a fun goof. The Dics did all the classics: "weekend" "Stay With Me" "Faster & Louder" "Two Tub Man" "The Minnesota Strip" a nice cover of "Sonic Reducer" and of course "Pussy & Money.". Those of you going to the meetup, prepare for intense fanboying.
Hey, I know how totally stoked you were to see them live, finally, and I'm SO HAPPY that they rocked the hell outta ya! *waves a glass of vodka in salute!*

Yeah The Dictators are alright and everything, but they're no ELO

Pardon my dingabttitude but why is CBGB's closing?

Rent's too high.

chewatadistance: Not only have rents gone up in that area, but that building is probably zoned for 10 story buildable, so to keep up with the market they would need to pay, I don't know, 50K per month rent?

So why not move the business to a different space?

Supposedly Hilly Kristal had almost secured a place on Essex Street, but the deal fell through. And truth be told, there's not enough of a market for CB's kind of music anymore, I think. Most of the people in the audience last night were my age or older. Y'know that movie, The Last Waltz? There was a similar feeling in the air.

Also, Andy (the bassist and songwriter), along with producing and songwriting and operating his own studio, has a career as a sommelier of all things. He may even get me to drink wine.

It is moving. To Vegas, baby.

Glad you enjoyed it, jon. I'd have been really surprised if you hadn't. And even more surprised if you'd gone "meh".

well, hellbient, it was a bunch of 50+ year old guys who haven't played together in years, so I was prepared for it to be an exercise it nostalgia, but it really wasn't. It stood on it's own merits.
