Apparently, any adult female will do... wife, girlfriend, or any woman who strikes your fancy (seems to be rooted in the village raids of old, where women were "carried off"...)

In a modern-day twist, the woman can also carry the man, if the pair so chooses (we wouldn't get as much beer or cash, though, love... ; )
