poisoned? So, I just bought a package of cookies from CVS and had already eaten a few before I realized that the other end of the package had already been opened. Am I right to be freaked out?
You are right to throw the cookies away. I wouldn't start freaking until I got sick, personally. It probably just popped open at some point.

You still with us, smich? (I was just typing the exact same thought as muddgirl.)

Don't worry but save them. If you start feeling ANY symptoms, go to and ER or your pracitioner (friday aft, good luck) and take the cookies. . .

Be prudent but don't worry. . .like like a 00.1% chance they were tampered with. . .better safe than sorry though

Yep, still here. Funny thing is, I usually inspect food packages pretty thoroughly before I buy, but this time I didn't. It's been an hour and I'm feeling ok, so that's good.

Thanks for the tip on saving the cookies, danf. Good idea.

I triple the agreement with muddgirl, because if I was going to poison something, it wouldn't be cookies at CVS... but I promise it wasn't me crapping in the spinach fields last month.

More likely to be poor packaging, or some little kid messing around before his/her mom said to put those cookies down right now and get over here!

Probably some moron wanted a cookie but didn't want to pay. Happens all the time. One of my biggest outrages was watching a 13 year old kid beg his mom for those dill pickle flavored potato chips. It was a big bag, and she told him to try them. I was watching as I was curious how they would taste. One taste and the look on his face pretty much told me his opinion. Well, he noticed me, and pretended to look at something else. I know the drill, and I watched him from an angle where he thought I couldn't see him. He rolled the bag up, in front of his mom, and stuffed it behind some bottles juices. I stormed over, and pulled it out in front of him, his mom, and his older sister. I told them what I thought about how rude to open the product, and because he doesn't like it, to just shove it away. Now it's unsaleable. His mom snatched it and said they'd pay for it, and to mind my own business. Hello? You're stealing from my business!!!!

I bought some beefy jerky one time on a road trip at this Love's gas station and opened it up in the car and started munching down. Ate a big piece, thought it tasted weird and flipped on the light. Oh. The package was mostly opaque so I didn't notice they were covered in fuzzy green mold. There was a tiny pinhole in the package in the very corner. I didn't get sick but I sure felt like I should.

No, you are not right to be freaked out.

Is it possible the packaged opened while being bagged or in transit from store to home? I've had that happen and I know that's what happened because I also carefully check packaging.

Freaking out is probably a little much unless you start feeling weird.

Was it sliced open, like with a box cutter? That often happens when stockers are opening cases. Still, you probably shouldn't continue eating the cookies. You might be able to get a refund on them tomorrow.
