Ask MeCha: Screen Captures from DVDs Hey! How can I get a screen grab from DVDs? I try ALT-Print Screen and paste it into Photoshop just fine, but when I save it is just a black frame.

Try turning off hardware acceleration: On my PC, it's under Display Properties > Settings > Advanced > Troubleshooting.

(This worked for my media player, on an .avi file).

Okay, I'll give that a shot. I think it has something to do with DirectX too.

I'm trying to get a particular still from The Seventh Seal that isn't showing the chess game or the dance with Death. Von Sydow looks and is lit like a religious statue and I MUST HAVE THAT SHOT.

I've been wondering abou this myself. I've tried doing screencaps from avi files viewed in Mplayer, but I don't even get as far as saving. When I paste into PS, all I get is the black square. I'll try the accelerator thing after work.
