Stoned Professor o.m.g. I don't even know what I'd do if I were a student. [More:] Oh Belindaaaaaaaa!

Did he really say "Willy-the-Shake"? Dude? Dude???

He needs to be fired just for that. Or maybe wedge could just give him a brisk rogering.

bwaaaaahahahaha.

As long as you weren't trying to give a lecture, you should have been fine.

I have really mixed feelings about all of this.

On the one hand his lecture is clearly atrocious. Worst of all he clearly has nothing prepared which I think is very disrespectful to his audience. He rambles on and on and is clearly going nowhere. He seems quite happy to mock a student for his lack of knowledge of history and yet, from this evidence, he's such a rotten teacher he seems incapable of curing his students ignorance.

On the other hand there's a lot about this that makes me really uncomfortable.

We all have bad days at work, sometimes bad months! If I had one of my bad days at work broadcast to the world and mocked I think I'd feel pretty rotten. If that bad day was the result of alcohol or drug abuse then maybe the result would be more of the same. I suppose what I'm saying is that the guy's probably like this, not because he's partying too hard (as amusing as that notion may be), but that he's clearly not a well man.

Then I'm made even more uncomfortable when boingboing illustrate their posting with a picture of the guy giving the finger when, if you watch the video, you can see he was kind of reluctant to do it because he knew how bad it would look. It was an image that was out of context and a bit below the belt if you ask me.

Another boingboing posting has this to say:
I was checking the videos from the week before the famed lecture and, in one he's talking about how he would be screwed if the university decided to lay him off. Around 23:44 in the video. Kinda ironic.

He's a guy who shouldn't be teaching until he gets some help but does that mean he deserves this kind of roasting? He's not cruel or particularly nasty, even his mocking is more silly than cutting. He's not powerful or strong, he's not harming anyone, I think he's just someone who's lost his way. That makes me feel a little bit sad.

killjoy was here    :(

Wasn't Robin Williams stoned in Dead Poets Society?

This is soooooo much worse than the usual drunken child-molesting university faculty embezzler.

The guy is losing it and needs treatment, not a lynch mob.

I'm just astonished that a 50+ years old man would say "duuuuuuuuudes".

Hmph! I'm older than Quansar and I say "Dude!" -- though I don't say "duuuuudes." I do say "dudes and dudettes" but that's not exactly the same thing.

*sulks*

the only reason he may lose his job is 1) it was caught on film.

I had a professor a few years back who came to class hammered on a number of occasions and I couldn't get anyone in admin to do anything about it. In hindsight I should have filmed him and posted it to the web. Of course in a class of 12 it may have been a bit obvious

1. how do we know he's baked? does anyone know for sure? is it possible he's just normally like that? (or another reasonable explanation?) i've had some really 'out there' (yet sober) professors, myself. also why would he allow the lecture to be filmed, if he really did toke before class? (or vice versa)
