Photo Phriday. The theme for this week, as suggested by Shane, is Found Art: "I like that. Stuff you just, um, found. Tripped over. Whatever. And it's, like, 'art.' "

I resent the bourgeois notion that "art is everywhere". What's more, I deny the existence of art or even the possibility of its existence. There is no such thing as art (there cannot be such thing); there's only the creative production of the working masses. Hear the music of the factories! The poetry of railway wagons passing by: "Ra-ta-tuh! Ra-ta-tuh!" Feel the rhythm of a society working towards a common goal!

I'm not sure if this counts; however this is one of the best looking manhole covers I've ever seen:

It's not the manhole cover, it's that oh so artfully crumpled paper bag masquerading as trash next to it that is the real star of that photo!

I'm tempted to go on some post-modern, art as commentary on the human condition screed but the truth is I didn't see that till I was reviewing the images. I was so concerned about getting the angle right so the shadows would bring out the pattern and so I wouldn't cast a shadow across the subject. I didn't give a first thought to the background.

The weird thing is you usually don't see litter like that around here.

Ooo graffiti! Yay I'm glad you reminded me, sciurus. I didn't think I had anything to post for this one but I do.

That's the window of a Baltimore nail salon and I just love it.

This is a tiny close up of a rusted out old truck in a junkyard. ≡ Click to see image ≡

Or maybe it's an image of Dan Brown, I can never tell which is which.

I stink at taking pictures, but here you go... a cool stick, art de mirage (part of the evil walks series), rocky, smoothies, heavy artillery, and two cool sticks like arse_hat's.

Mitheral, do you know about Drainspotting? It's run by hades from Metafilter. You should submit that shot if you haven't already.

Daniel Charms, I like your trainyard pic. Very faux lomo. (Or real lomo?) Do you have a flickr stream?

Croctommy, your posting didn't take. You might have to strip off anything in the URL after .jpg (the "?v=0").

Thanks for saving me the effort of looking that up matildaben. I took the picture (along with a few others) with the intention of submitting it.

Croctommy: lovely kelp and algaes. I can walk for hours on the beach getting lost in stuff like that. Beautiful.

MB: Thanks for Drainspotting! I'd never seen that before. I would submit this striking one from New Orleans; but they've got a similar one already.

mats: i had no idea a meef did drainspotting. Had a few friends who did manhole cover pics ages ago that i wanted to send there.
Almost makes me wish i wasn't one of the users that "fell through the cracks" of how-e-mail.

I actually know hades from Drizzle, which is the online community I participated in before Metafilter and Metachat. He lives a few blocks from my old place.

jonmc, that's great, your photo is like a cartoon character who fell out a window. He was 3d but now he's flat on the pavement. But he's still smilin'.
