I am going to replay a zelda game [More:]

Should I replay Link to the Past or Ocarina of Time?
Hmm. OoT's a better game, I think.

Would you be playing 'em on the original hardware or in emulators or on a Gamecube bonus disc or what?
posted by box 29 September | 20:00
I ask because I think OoT loses a lot when not played w/the N64 controller.

Ocarina of Time is such a amazing story, and has way better graphics, but of course Link to the Past is a real classic. I'm a Link whore and have played every game at least 3 times. I would play Ocarina of Time - it just generally kicks ass and of course you get to ride Epona and do all kinds of really fun stuff. Good music, too.

I can't wait until Twilight Princess comes out.

Hey box, you never approved or rejected my flickr testimonial. At least up till this afternoon you hadn't.

Holy cow, iconomy, you're right. I think I figured that testimonials would show up in my inbox or something. Consider the situation remedied.

Since I'm talking to two big Zelda fans (Link whore? Awesome.), what do you folks think about 4 Swords? I'm thinking I might pick it up for the multiplayer (I've got a GBA, a GBA SP and two GC/GBA link cables). Am I nuts?
posted by box 29 September | 20:11
No, you're not nuts...it's great fun for two...definitely! I played it with my son and we had a blast. I found it weird at first, because you have to interact with both the TV and the GB, but you get used to it pretty quickly.

I can play OoT either way. I have the bonus disc with it and Majora's Mask (which I have never played all the way, come to think of it... is it worth messing with? I don't remember if I got distracted or just didn't like it...) for Gamecube and I also have it with the N64 original hardware. Gold N64 cartridge that I just happened to catch in a store despite the fact that everybody wanted the gold ones and they were going for over 100 bucks each on eBay. Dumb luck.

Probably the best bet is to play OoT. I played through it twice way back when, but have not touched it in years. So I likely have forgot pretty much everything. Old is new again! Upside of having a crappy memory. I played Link to the Past so many times that I still remember some stuff despite my lousy memory.

Then again, I am talking about replaying games when I have a stack of games I have not even played one time yet. Really I should play one of them. Every year in winter I forget that I am not a ten-year-old anymore and I buy every game that I see that looks neat and is at a bargain price. I play through a couple of them during the cold months and the rest collect dust. Then spring hits, all of my time is spent working or gardening (this year has left me so fed up on the gardening that I may very well destroy 3/4 of my gardens before next spring, but I digress) and the games sit there wasting space. Last winter I bought about fifteen games for PS2/GameCube/Xbox and I have not even touched at least ten of them. Sad. At least when I buy a GBA/DS game it gets playtime. BECAUSE I PLAY THOSE ON THE TOILET. Yes. You needed to know that.

I have not played Four Swords. I play by myself so I didn't see the point.

Also someone should give me a Flickr testimonial. But only if it is really weird.

What are some of these games that you haven't played?
posted by box 29 September | 20:30
Majora's Mask is fantastic.
posted by iconomy 29 September | 20:52
majora's mask is better than ocarina of time imho
posted by Wedge 29 September | 21:58
I ended up starting Majora's Mask, might as well tackle one game that I haven't played through.

Games I haven't (well don't recall) played:

Final Fantasy X2
Gran Turismo 3 A Spec
Metal Gear Solid 2
Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance
Suikoden III

Metroid Prime II
Super Mario Sunshine

Beyond Good and Evil
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Megaman Anniversary Collection (eh, with emulators I am not sure why I even bought this one)
Forza Motorsport (came with the X-Box though)

Of course I even have Playstation games that I have not played, but we won't even go there. And probably 2x that many games that I have played but not finished. Bleh.

Oh, god... Ocarina of Time. Great game, but I can hear Navi scolding me with "LISTEN!!" and suddenly I want to book a trip to Disneyland for the sole purpose of choking the shit out of Tinkerbell.

If you haven't played Super Mario Sunshine through, you need to. That game is thwacked in the best way. Every once in a while I still have dreams about floating around on a water-jet rocket belt.

Final Fantasy X2 was a lot of fun. I played it twice - the first time I played it I didn't get the ending I wanted, so I played it again and did more of the side quests, and got the "good ending". It's a stand alone game but continues the story of Yuna and Tidus as told in X. The first 5 minutes of the game are so impossibly lame and cheesy that you might be tempted to stop playing, but don't. It's a pretty good story line, it's fun, it's not too terribly difficult (but still challenging), and it has the same characters and landscape as X, so there's a built-in familiarity with it, which means it takes a lot less time to get acclimated to the whys and wherefores of the layout. It's not a typical RPG in that although you do control more than one character, there are only three to control, and you have no choices to make as far as forming a party goes. And the three characters you control are all female, which I personally loved.

OoT sucked ass.

i haven't played Ocarina of Time...have it on the Majora's Mask Classic-Greatest-Hits-whatever disc that came with the GameCube. I liked Majora.
I'm now madly trying to finish Windwaker before November so I can get Twilight P.
My son is a Zelda freak, (he's just turned 5) and knows every game. We gave him 4 swords for his birthday, I thought we could play it together but we only have 2 GC controllers and one Gameboy Advance.

I was really disappointed by WW. It was so disjointed. And all that SAILING!
posted by iconomy 30 September | 09:21
I've been playing WindWaker for eons now. Its OK but takes so damned long to get from place to place (stoopid real time boat thing) and there's so many side quests. Funnily enough, I got bored of it because there was just too much to do.

I just heard about TP (hee!) and now I need it. I need that game bad.
posted by LunaticFringe 30 September | 09:23
When does it come out? I seriously can't wait. And FF XII is coming out soon too, right? Wheee!
posted by iconomy 30 September | 11:05
My Wii is ordered. Come early December I'll be able to play the early Zelda games as much as I want.
