28 September 2006

It is turning out to be a great day [More:]I recently became eligible for medical benefits from my temp agency. Today I became eligible for paid holidays, and I got a medium sized bonus for passing the 1200 hours worked mark. I recieved yet another compliment on my work performance as the Operations Committee Representative to the corporate HQ for my office, in addition to more compliments on my phone manners. One of my friends from high school is in the Bay area on a work related trip and wants to have dinner tonight. I did get some sad news from home last night, but that is for another thread...
What nice things are happening to you today?
When I went out on the sidewalk for a cigarette earlier, there was a dude sitting on a stoop bellowing "BO!" at 20 second intervals. Passersby were ignoring him.

This is nice in that it reminds me that I'm back in New York City.

Free lunch and free cake.

I got all my work done early and am leaving at 5 to get my nails done with my friend who is in town from DC. It's the first time will ever have had a manicure. Not even for my wedding.

That's kind of nice.

That's great news, goml. Glad to hear it. And good for you for spoiling yourself, gaspode. Today's been a banner day for me, too:

I've finally arranged a ride to the ferry, so will definitely be heading to the island this weekend.

My uncle has fixed the woodstove, so I'll actually have heat.

I've managed to arrange to have someone stay here while I'm away, while helping out a very close friend who's going through an ugly divorce & needs a place to stay. Not only that, but he's insisting on paying me some rent, in spite of my protestations.

I got to chat with a friend who I haven't talked to in far, far too long.

I've rediscovered Ministry's Psalm 69 album, which I haven't listened to in years. I'd forgotten what a great album it is. So there was only one thing I could do: ding a ding dang my dangalong ling long.

The combination of Ministry and two pots of strong tea have turned me into a whirlwind of activity, which I desperately need to be if I'm to be ready to go in time.

Or, maybe, it's utterly shitty day.

I'm getting a SWEET new camera phone tomorrow and I just had a discussion with my dad/boss about some business changes that will eliminate the sucking of my soul on a daily basis and give me a more flexible schedule so I can take some classes in the spring.

A nice long visit to my cool hairstylist with much laughing, and some added color.

I interviewed a man this morning who is supposed to be a bit awkward, but was in fact most pleasant and amusing, and we ended up chatting for ages.

Then I had a beer with my lunch, after which I went to sleep on the sofa for two hours instead of working.

Simple pleasures.

Not much good in today, except that I don't have to go outside to do field testing. Don't much feel like braving the mosquitos today.

I saw a cute squirrel in Russell Square today as I was having my lunch. It was nibbling on stuff and sneaking about all over looking for food.

This has been kind of a blah day for me, but I am making curried scallops with fried rice for supper. Dessert will be a pineapple smoothie with a healthy dose of rum.

I love to cook! (Does that show? heheh)

Ahhh, the scallops turned out perfect. The walnuts really made the dish.

What nice things are happening to you today?

A hot redhead just sauntered through my front door and asked if I had cooked dinner yet. After hearing that I hadn't, she presented me with a double-double from In-N-Out just the way I like it (onions, lettuce, tomatos, no sauce), a strawberry shake, and a 6-pack of Guinness.

I win.
