Prussian Blue on the Billboard Top 40! This is disgusting... NSFHumans
Joe Famous put this in the three things thread, but I think it needs an FPP.
Updated: A Hoax, read inside.
Aside from that article, there dosen't seem to be any actual proof of this yet. (Don't get me wrong. This duo's very existence is disturbing, let alone them being popular, but I'm beginning to wonder if this is some kind of hoax or hype).

They must have had groups buy up tons of copies, the way the Scientologists do it with "Dianetics". Sick.

reposted from the original thread:

The Prussian BLue thing is a troll, right?

I can't find anything on Billboard .

I can't find any confirmation or mention of their album other than the article Joe Famous linked to.

No mention of it on the blog linked from their mother's stormfront forum signature.

(no mention of it on their own web site either. I did find a lovely photo of cattled branded with a swastika on their family ranch blog)

Can't find it on Billboard either. (Anyone have links to their lyrics, esp. to "Funny Rich N----r"?)

and this bunch dosen't even have that spiffy tin-can-hooked-up-to-a-light-meter contraption.

I can only imagine how they advertise their meat. 'We're fascist about lean!'

Also, the KKK/White Supremascist movement has a long history of financial fraud against it's own members and the general public going back to the 1920's. In fact, the FBI busting them for it nearly crippled them for a few decades. I wouldn't be shocked if this was some kind of scam, too.

Nothing turned up in a search for anyone remaking Birth of a Nation, but it reminded me of the DJ Spooky project.

Well, I guess I should be relieved.

They have no chart history.

My money's definitely on hoax. Especially since that appears to be some kind of PBP message-board posting, rather than an actual news article.

Another theory: maybe these columnists concocted the story to create some kind of panic*, similar to that (also false) story about the 5-year-old heroin addict back in the 70's?

Either way, I guess there'll be an unemployed pair of newspaper writers in Palm Beach tommorrow.

*(If they did, shame on them. Not only is it unethical, it'll make real tales of racism suspect, which should set back race relations some)

(hell, the amount of coverage this duo has gotten from the media is panic mongering to sell papers anyway. There have always been racist wingnuts in the world, I don't see why we need to give them free publicity)

Just got off the phone with the Palm Beach Post. They are removing the "article".

Let me go out on a limb and suggest that the head of the NAACP's legal defense fund didn't say "This is bullshit" to a reporter. Also, when I quote Jesse Jackson, I usually spell his name right.
posted by box 26 September | 13:16
This article has probably been seen by enough people by now to feed panic mongerers on every side of this issue and to make the quotes seem real (and be propogated as such). What a fucking mess.
posted by jonmc 26 September | 13:22
A lot of it seems to have been cribbed from this ABC News article from almost a year ago. The parts that claim sucess on their part, and "reactions" from real famous people, seems to have originated on that Palm Beach Post message board.

Either "Jdilla" wanted to make this group look more successful than it is, or wanted to inflame people on an already inflammatory subject, and took it as an excuse to make stuff up.

I hope the admins will delete the link from this post, if not the whole post, just to keep it from getting Googled and linked to us.

The weird thing is that the authors are real reporters- found this info via Google:

Claudia Rosett is a consultant to FOX News and Journalist-in-Residence at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies.

George Russell is a consultant for FOX News.

I vote for no deletion. This is the thread that proved the story was fake.

how about a little update notice on the post: "Updated: A Hoax, read below."?
posted by taz 26 September | 13:50
That's a good idea. Can my comment be edited so that there is no link to their blog?
posted by simbiotic 26 September | 13:53
Me three! I didn't realize that was a pun until I saw it on the screen.
