I Miss Spinach.
Spinach sauteed with garlic and olive oil and crushed red pepper. And baby spinach tossed with carrots, thin slivers of red onion, sesame seeds, and a dressing of soy, dark sesame oil, rice wine winegar, garlic, and ginger.

I miss Spinach, too. I was sad that I had to throw away my bagged spinach. I wish I had eaten it the day before.

I live on collard greens, myself. With lots of pepper sauce.

Just out of curiousity, is it not possible to by fresh spinach instead of that e. coli infected bagged crap?

I had just, these past few months, learned to love spinach. I would sit in front of the TV and eat baby spinach straight out of the bag, the way that other people eat potato chips.

From WebMD:

Until further notice, the FDA advises people not to eat fresh spinach from any source, including supermarkets, restaurants, and farmers markets.

"There's no evidence to indicate that spinach that is obtained from a local farmers market outside of the areas that have been implicated with the outbreak -- the three counties that we discussed [California's Monterey, San Benito, and Santa Clara counties] -- is in any way implicated in this outbreak," Acheson tells WebMD.

"The difficulty with putting out a nationwide consumer message is obviously the need for clarity," he says.

"If an individual ... knows exactly where the spinach was grown, and they know it wasn't implicated in an area of concern as part of this outbreak, then obviously it would be safe to consume," Acheson says.

The FDA is working on a process to allow spinach not grown in the three California counties to be allowed back on store shelves, but that plan isn't in place yet.

I was served frozen spinach in a quiche last Saturday. I ate it dutifully. It was good.

Even if you're not the kind who falls for media scaremongering, you can't buy it.

Yes, there was not a spot of spinach in stores yesterday. I miss baby spinach tossed with sectioned organic tomatoes, olives, bean sprouts, basalmic vinagrette, and feta cheese.

I had spinach, tomato and feta tortellini just the other day. I'll have to eat more spinach to represent metachat to the vegetable world.

So... In the meantime, U.S. people, arugula. I often even cook up arugula like regular cooked greens or spinach; if you're looking for something to put in your quiche, you might try it. I haven't tried making a soup yet (like cream of spinach, for example), but that's an idea too.

Spinach grows very nicely in pots. Quickly, too.

Damn. I could go for some spinach pizza right now. From Edwardo's, or mabye Uno's.

If the mister had built me the coldframe I had asked for, we'd have months more fresh spinach to snack on. You've failed the family, Mr. Rossi!

I think I'm going to take JanetLand's suggestion and maybe do some pots on the sunporch until things get too freezey.

WHAT?!?! I'm sick for a couple of days and there's no spinach available in stores now? This is an outrage.

On Saturday, ikkyu2 and I went to a wonderful steakhouse. I had seen creamed spinach on the menu, and we were so excited about the creamed spinach. "Steak!" we cried. "With creamed spinach! How much more perfect can you get?!"

Alas, there was no creamed spinach. It was, in our minds, a tragedy.

A true American tragedy.
