I just found out we have an excellent group coming here to perform the complete cycle of Bartók quartets in the spring. This is what a very excited Wolfdog looks like.
Which quartet? Takacs? I just saw an excellent DVD by them doing #2, #3, and #6.

Takács is indeed excellent in Bartók, but we have the Julliard Quartet coming. It seems very special to me to have a chance to see all six performed; they're doing it over two days, which seems reasonable to me - a lot to digest, of course, but not something as ridiculous as trying to take in the complete Beethoven or Shostakovich or other very large bodies of work. Bartók's six all seem essential and each has such a vividly distinct character that there's no danger of it all blurring together.
