Chilean photographer Tomas Munita has won the 2006 Leica Oskar Barnack Award for his photo report "Kabul – Leaving the Shadows." →[More:]
Those photos are amazing. I wonder what he uses - I didn't see any camera specs on his site. And I wonder how much that Leica is worth. Lucky s.o.b...
I mean, he earned it, obviously. But still, lucky s.o.b.!
i saw some of his work at this exhibition recently - i don't recognise his name (don't really follow photography) but there were a set of photos in a small room by a chilean photographer (the main exhibition was international) and they were, in retrospect, clearly the work of this guy. very saturated colours, "obvious" framing, etc.
(the most memorable work was actually by someone else - a photo of the aftermath of a riot in a prison somewhere in south or central america. someone's head was lying on the floor.)
you can see some of the photos, including several from munita, here. the colouring of the fabrics on some (and the composition) is so "renaissance-like" it seems kind-of cheesy to me. look at this one - don't know if it's amazing, or just "too much":
