My ankle is better, but I still limp often, especially when I first stand up. I went to physical therapy this morning and now have all kinds of exciting exercises to do.
Janet, you and I had similar injuries, and it was around 8 months before I could walk without a limp. I am glad to hear you are in physical therapy; the improvement I saw with PT was dramatic and unbelievable. Best of luck with your continued recovery.
My brother-in-law who fell about 20 feet and crushed his ankle, and otherwise fractured the hell out of the related bones a year ago, is having to live with an unhealing mass of bone fragments where the joint should be. There's a lot of metalwork in there and they'd hoped it would heal, but it hasn't and there's pretty much zero chance at this point that it will. He does walk on it, carefully, and he has a lot of pain. They suggested just fusing the whole thing together but he's delayed that decision because it's irreversable. The biggest problem is that a few months ago a bad infection flared up from within one of the bones, they ended up having to put in a semi-permanent IV tube and admin antibiotics for six weeks. With infection like this in the bone, there's a continuing possibility that they might just have to amputate it.
All from a single moment when this formally completely healthy 27 year old, a capable and experienced rock climber, realized that he'd made a bad choice.
Anyway, I'm sorry you still have pain and a limp, JanetLand. Do those exercises, physical therapy can make a huge difference in your recovery.
